I'm particularly keen on point 4 because in an post-apocalyptic environment it makes no sense for wealth to be derived from precious metals, after all gold is just shiny yellow lead. The true determinants of wealth are trade and specialisation and that's what towns and cities do so well. And the bigger the city is the more trade and the more specialisation there can be. So as well as potentially improving gameplay it'll actually make your in-game economy mor

One possibility I haven't seen here that might be worth thinking about is the Binomial Distribution. If you make your random roll on the binomial distribution with p = 0.5 and n = attack / defence then instead of rolling 1dn you're effectively flipping n coins and counting the number of heads (or you could think of it as nd2 - n). This will ensure your output is bounded between 0 and n, but the result will start to look a lot like a blocky bell curve once n gets above about 5.&nbs
That's interesting, my order is 1696338 and I'm still not able to access it yet. Perhaps there's more to it than simple timing?
Great thanks for posting this, the sleep deprivation was a little noticeable though [e digicons][/e]
So how's this going to work? I've pre-ordered but wasn't in the beta, am I going to get an e-mail with my product code, or will the game just appear as available in Impulse?
Look forward to it.
Very nice.
Consider the Colonial Fleet. We are an established empire, just starting to get back into the game. A fondness for Battlestar Galactica of course helps, but is not necessary. Our new forum is hosted at the Galactic Core. Interested?
No problem, I look forward to seeing it.
I'll tell you what I know. The Emperor of the Colonial Fleet is Gekomind, who also maintained the old Colonial Fleet forum. I was one of the first members of the fleet (I believe Shalkto was the first recruit, I was second). The Fleet rose in the rankings, at one point I believe we were the third ranked empire for a while (a brief while I should add). Things started to cool off after a while, we all started turning our attention to other games. The forum was still quite live
This looks like an interesting project. I'll be watching your progress with interest.
After an extended period freezing our backsides off on New Caprica, the Colonial Fleet is back in the game ready to frag a few toasters (and build up the metaverse rankings again). If you are a new recruit looking to sign up, or a veteran Fleet member ready to re-enlist you are welcome. Anyone who wants to join the Colonial Fleet can register at our shiny new forum at the Galactic Core Link , all you need to do is: 1) Go to
ANNOUNCEMENT The Colonial Fleet is now hosted at the Galactic core WWW Link To any old members wanting to re-enlist, or any new players wanting to join, all are welcome. All you need to do is: 1) Go to the Core and register. 2) Send a private message to me and I'll join you up.
I've registered at the core. Ill check in with you tomorrow.
However if they research a new weapon type your defence will fall to 13. Then you may have a problem.
The Colonial Fleet would be interested in being hosted at the Galactic Core. While the Admiral is away I will represent the Fleet. What do I need to do? Prince of Crows Acting Commander, Colonial Fleet
My point regarding communism is that all primary economic activity is directed by the state. Not all authoritarian states have this tendency. Pinochet's regime for example had a disticnt free market streak (though I doubt such a combination could be stable in the long run) and fascist states tended more toward corporatism. I suppose a more accurate description would have been Stalinist, rather than communist, specifying a particular flavour of communism that combines Marxist economic
I'll field the economics side of the question. While the economic system is quite detailed in GalCiv II, it is not a good representation of an actual economy (not that I'm criticising, the objective wasn't to create a economic model after all). This is largely because there is no treatment of private sector activity (none of which would be under the player's control) and all commercial buildings and trade goods are constructed and maintained by the state, as well as all research - it s
To any members of the colonial fleet still out there... I recently corresponded with Gekomind on the status of the fleet. He said that he was experiencing some difficulties that required him to take down the Colonial Fleet website. He is working to get things up and running again, but that may take a couple of months.
It worse in Australia. Australia doesn't have an R18 rating for computer games so any game too adult for an MA15 rating is banned. That includes all the GTA games for instance.
Sounds to me like we need a poll as to whether we should have a poll about carriers.
Good could be improved by increasing the power of their defensive systems. i like the idea of good ships getting systems that protect against all damage types, rather than just one. Also the price for selecting an alignment you are not leaning toward should be increased by a factor of 10 or 100, with the option blocked if you cannot pay up front.
Someone set us up the bomb!
Wow Veblen that's one hell of a Monte Carlo you have there It cerainly confirms my intuitions that 1) defences will be more important 2) combat will be more uncertain and 3) first-mover advantage will be diminshed. I would just point out to anyone reading this post that although the tactical advantage of attacking is gone the strategic advantage is not. That is to say that on
One question: Are you going to readjust the pre 1.1 scores on the metaverse? If so, when? If not, why not?
