Personally I think the Terror Star should be limited by its nature to evil civlisation. Sorry but if destroying an entire star system isn't evil, what is? It would be important of offergood and neutral civilisations something else to compensate, like a mobile starbase that could act as logisitical support for a fleet, perhaps even the ability to build worlds. There should also be a severe diplomatic penalty for using a terror star. The issue of the Terror Star surviving is easy to

I've always thought of the Vorlons as lawful netural, not lawful good. After all they were quite willing to use telepaths as cannon fodder when it suited them to.

2 points: 1) stellar cartography is a "gateway" tech so it is worth researching purely for that reason. 2) there is a slight brightness difference between high and low quality planets on the minimap.

Far be it from me do argue with a Heinerian Dominar, but it does make sense ... "Well General, what's your report on the invasion of Macedonia I?" "Overall its gone well Mr President, there was a minimum of civilian casualties and the transition to a new provisional government has occured with the minimum of protest, in fac the populace seems almost releived" "A definite success then" "Mostly yes sir, its just that ... well ..." "Yes general?" "Some of the thi

I disagree about influence starbases. They can be much more easily destroyed in a military situation. One embassy per planet is not a high price to pay and the cumulative effect is definitely noticable.

Because they are GOOD . Caring is what they do. Terror Star technology should be evil only, obliterating a planet containing intelligent life is evil by definition. I do beleive however that good and neutral civs should get a variation of Terror star technology. Neutral civilisations could be given mobile military starbases that would provide military support, but would not engage the enemy directly. Good civilsations could be given somethin

Once you have started a game with altered stats this method will not work as the altered stats will be considerd the default (at least pre 1.1). Instead go to My Documents / Games / GalCiv2. there will be 1 or more files labelled CurrentCustomRace#.raceconfig where # will be a number of 0 or more. Delete the file that pertaisn to your alterations (you may need to delete tem all to find it) and stats will be reset to default.

I did play KOTOR, but must have missed the line. I would like to see some HK-47 / 50 quotes for the Yor though: Occaisonal "meatbag" references. Declaration of war: "Statement: We are eager to facilitate communications, and terminate ... hostilities" Diplomatci Greeting: "Query: Is there someone you want killed master?" Surrender: "N-1 is ready to serve, master"

Yes you would think that anyone who had played both games would realise that, especially if they claim to be huge fans of one of them ...

Just to throw a spanner in the work in space it might be possible for a large ship to be more manoeuverable than a small one. Since any ship that wanted to take less than a month to get to half-light would need some kind of inertial dampeners a big ship with lots of thrusters could theoretically out-manoeuvre a smaller ship. However since this is counter-intuitive you could argue that the inertial dampeners can only cancel out some of the inertia, ma

That's the justification for leaving them out, hyperdrive is superior to stargate technology so all the old stargates were scrapped. This is not to say that an expansion couldn't reintroduce the concept as advanced technology might improve the basic design.

I think armour should scale up with size because bigger ship = more surface area required = more space taken up. This is of course assuming that armour should take up space at all, which it probably shouldn't (though for balance I understand why it does). As for the good / evil balance, just make evil wepons slightly larger. This would create a difference in fleet style, which evilr aces tending to use bigger ships than good ones, but so w

I would certaintly accept that proposition. Taste being subjective, I'm sure some peole consider other games to be better, but to seriously claim that another game in the same genre was vastly superior to GalCiv2? I would think that hard to justify.

You are right Knute you can control space with enough ships. you want to secure your borders its simple, just build 100,000 ships and position them at the edges of your influence, problem solved. This is the nature of the unimaginable vastness of space. I believe the problem fo borders can best be solved using a historical solution, namely the convention used for setting territorial waters. No country with any meaningful coastline can constantly mo

Slightly more obscure: (Drengin message while winning a war against you) Haha you fool, you've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Kona, but only slightly less well-known is this: Never go in against a Drengin when death is on the line!

I would venture to suggest Trent that for the reviewers who take off points for multiplayer, online play = multiplayer. Not to say that your points aren't valid but I doubt a dveloper would gain much by including a LAN only multiplayer feature. I personally don't use multiplayer. I am an avid board gamer and wargamer and for me that is multiplayer. Games are what I do when I don't have anyone around for either of the above.

i agree with the planetary bombardment, but with limitations: 1) a special ship module should be needed, it would take a massive number of specially designed warheads to kill all life on a planet and would therefore require a specialised ship. 2) Such a bombardment would require neutralising the defensive fleet around the planet. 3) Planet quality should be drasitcally reduced, perhaps to 0. This is realistic and prevents the use
