In the stream on 1/30, someone asked a question that needs more discussion. It was about allowing ships to stay out of range of short range ships. This is a very viable strategy that I have used in many other games where you build specialized ships to put in a "kiting" fleet. these ships are designed to be very fast with long range weapons and only work if you kite or shadow the enemy ships, keeping out of their range but staying in your range by using your superior speed.</
I agree completely, and although you can go through the some 3500 names in the datafile, I would prefer a star rename function for things that are in my ZoC so if I really don't like seeing a star named "GAMERZ" I can just change it on the fly!
So basically, you are saying that you want the programmers to put a function in game to negate the whole funding reward that allowed the game to be created in the first pla

Events: slider for impact level of events (to turn off game wrecking events but leave in flavor, minor, and/or challenging events) Ship Combat: choose from a menu of ship tactics In GC3, since it seems that it is unlikely to get tactical combat, I think it is crucial to have a large variety of combat tactic "orders" to give so that all ship combat doesn't come down to offence number - def
1. What specific features of diplomacy do you traditionally like the most? I want you to be as specific as you can be. Which parts of diplomacy from any game do you like the most? What parts do you remember long after playing the most?
I'm going to go out of the box here... A.I.'s are nice and all, but the best games I have ever played have been against real people. There is nothing better than playing a "long game" that pays out using multiple
I would just like to emphasize this one point. there are other topics on auto balancing trades or assigning "value" to items that can be used to min/max a deal, but this 'What will it take to make this deal work?' is brilliant! It should not put the deal exactly on the border of barely acceptable (min/max thing again), but shou
Yes we can detect planets by their shadow across their sun/star but we have no way of knowing if their habitable or not and current RL tech means even with unmanned craft it would take hundreds if not thousands of years for a probe to get there let alone its transmission time back to earth? That said this is a game and wheres the fun in knowing where everything is? (this is why I don't research stellar cartography unless I really, really n
BORING! The tech tree in its natural makes it impossible to determine what improvements you are working towards. In 'tech tree' mode, it is impossible to tell which tech you are working towards as the names shift or overwrite each other. Just spent eighteen hours playing this (the third time I've tried the game since Beta started) and you basically sit around clicking the "Turn" button waiting

That would be OK too. Also providing the last player (slow-poke) an opportunity to do 2 turns in a row (turn - process turn - turn) allowing the game to move on faster. I do hope that Steam Cloud has some mechanism to inform the other players that new turn is available.

I (and I think the original author) are trying to say that there needs to be a reason to claim the resources earlier that late game. If the resources were collected and maybe tradable, that would be a motivation. If having access to them early game gave some kind of passive bonus in general to empire ships or production, that would be a motivation. If getting it early give an offence/defence awesomeness to the station itself (maybe that's how we discover the resource has str

What we really need is an after turn event report. This would list import events and be able to react to them. It could be another tab with your colonies, resources, etc. Some examples are provided below. Combat results (click to zoom to battle area, even if all my ships destroyed) special events Tech complets Colony messages: approval on decline (drops below 100%) approval critical started the

In many 4x games I play, there is usually a planet list that is filterable and has columns for planet statistics. You can usually send a colony ship to the planet (if one is available) directly from this list. As your empire gets spread out over large areas, it gets harder to find the perfect planet to lay down roots. Having a nice list that can be filtered and sorted by various aspects is vital to planning and implementing empire growth.

I have to admit, I haven't even tried to mine anything (didn't see the pressing need), but do the resources stack/store? If so, you might want to mine early to use later just in case. If they don't, I'm with everyone else... just ignore them. Pretend they don't exist until way later in the game when they actually have any kind of value. IMHO - they should be storable commodities that could even be traded. then there is REAL value.
In the Steam forums they were taking about the steam cloud so instead of PBEM we could have PBSC.
I would take that, as long as it allowed players to turn in a turn, and when all turns are in it would process the turns.
Personally, I had originally thought that sentry would be a recurring movement option, but the current build would not let me do that. To me Sentry should be the option for a ship to patrol go back and forth indefinitely until an enemy comes within sensor range. It would be nice if choosing not to attack an enemy in range did not necessitate recreating the sentry every time an uninteresting ship comes within range. &n

Idea: Instead of PBE, what about a campaign server mode. In Dev Stream on 19 Sept, they were talking about why would anyone want to play with more than 4 because it would be hard to get that many online at the same time. Well, mix that with PBE and you get a campaign server mode where you could login to your race, turn in a turn, and when all turns are in it would process the turns. It would be good to have it inform the players that ready for next turn. It shoul
Is there a way to know the population cap on a planet? In GCII I knew when to build more farms by watching the population approach the cap number for the planet.
I think some mouse over info on the food should give visibility on the max population (and maybe what went into that if it is anything other than food). Saying how many mega tons of food is not valuable information without context into how that affects max population.

+1 There are lots of examples of putting up a temp building until something else is researched. the difference between an empty spot and the first tier production/research/market building is huge over the number of turns until you get to an upper tier "hub" building like a capital.

Ahhhh, I started a new game and there was the consulate. The new game, I was Human... the old one I was Iridium. I didn't realize that the Iridium don't even have access to all that influence line. I think this makes them far less than ideal for the Influence Gambit.

Aloha, OK, I'm probably going to get ripped, but I'm going to ask anyway... Where the heck are Consulate, Cultural Center, and Outreach Center? I swear I have search the entire tech tree and the Ideology tree and I can't see where you get those. I have invaded planets with them, so I know they are in the game, but I have never seen them anywhere. thanks
