Stop reading this and go buy it now!!!.
Only if you like games with no challenge, no immersion, and no fun. Thus far, Rome has easily been the low point of the series (although Empire is trying *real* hard to take its place). Gah! I lost over a year of my life playing that bloody game. I had to quit cold turkey, else I'd have gone mad -- MAD, I tell you!!

No, the Epic Generator will not be in Elemental, but we'll definatly have some robust event logging to help AAR writers do their thing.
Bah. I second Reliant and Swicord in saying you really shouldn't be beating on yourself for that -- in fact, I demand you knoc
1. Medieval II: Total War. Annoyances aside, this is awesome RTS. I personally don't like to have to constantly deal with units streaming from factories. You have what you have, and you have to be a tactician instead of a spammer.
The Total War series doesn't really qualify as real-time strategy games. Given the majority of TW gamers play in campaign mode, it would be more accurate to classify them as turn-based.&nb

Is Elemental even going to *have* a scenario/mission-based campaign? I don't remember seeing any mention of it; I was kind of under the impression there will just be the sandbox mode.

While my response isn't quite as....intense as Sarudak's , I definitely agree with him. Finite resources are a bad idea; I don't even like them in RTS games! And in TBS games, having finite resources would be even worse....if not an outright utter disaster.

Games I'm salivating over and planning on getting (so long as they don't utterly suck): 1.) Elemental 2.) War in the Pacific: Admirals Edition 3.) King Arthur Games that -- while I'm not committed to getting yet -- definitely intrigue me: 1.) HoI 3 2.) Aphelion: Phoenix Rising 3.) Empires of Steel

I've heard lots of good things about Emperor of the Fading Suns over the years, and I too would very much like to see a sequel. However, I'm not sure Stardock would be the best choice for that, due to how heavily invovled they already are with other space strategy titles: They already publish Ironclad's Sins of a Solar Empire (and expansions), plus their own Galactic Civilizations series is pretty much the flagship product

If both cities and champions are defined by an essence investment, don't they both deserve a mechanism that enables a player to lose that investment? Shouldn't failing to keep the loyalty of Shanna the Sharp be as much a risk as failing to defend Lower Knifetown from an invasion? Your

Besides, I prefer swords, knights and bows to muskets and ridiculous uniforms (why on earth did military forces dress like that?!)
Yeah, the game's period is admittedly part of the reason I'm less than enthused about Empire -- I too prefer either the medieval or classical Greco-Roman era(s) -- but only part of it. There's too many bugs, too many AI problems, and too many balance issues in ETW that s

I'll simply second those who've recommended you wait for it to come down in price, have it more fully patched, or both. Empire has a lot of potential....but then, so have all the other Total War games. Thus far, only Shogun and the original Medieval have ever really been up to snuff. Wow. This is the most entertaining Jack has been in the last few years. I love it. [e digicons][/e] It also displays his stunning lack of tact and/or political prowess. He is -- against all odds -- managing to alienate what is quite probably the most conservative state in the Union....and therefore also the one that would likely be most sympathetic to his goals of outlawing "pornographic" video games. Priceless!

Possibly even worse because now I'm going to want to be planning ahead many building periods for every city (might as well start moving resources right away, rather than wait to need them moved) I guess it would give something to do between turns. Really I think this camp causes camp #1 not to even be a consideration. I still t
Yeah, I agree that defensive conscripts make more sense than offensive ones, but rather than perhaps making offensive conscripts non-present in the game, they can simply be made much less viable by virtue of the fact that penalties would stack the longer they are gone. Peasants conscripted quickly to a defensive war can return home quickly. Those on prolonged campaigns in distant lands would cause exceptional unrest and productivity pe
