The forums are organized well. I just think it can be done better.
I strongly disagree with that assessment. The way the various forums and sub-forums are laid out, it tends to be a chore to find what you're looking for (often because it's not in the forum you'd expect to find it). Some reorganizing and streamlining is definitely in order. That being sai
I can tell you right now there won't be a "Campaign" for GalCiv IV. Instead, that story content will be integrated into the sandbox game so that each game can, in effect, be a campaign.
Excellent! I can't tell you how happy that makes me.
Most excellent. Am looking forward to the update and the DLC!
Once again dodging the tactical combat question. That same answer was given weeks ago.Create checks and balances does not mean anything..
I took their dodging the question to mean we won't have any control during battles whatsoever, not even on a macro level. Well at least I now know I needn't worry about spending my money on GalCiv3. Some form of controllable combat was probably my #1 w
Someone from Stardock (although I think it was Brad himself) already indicated tactical combat is being included in some form. At the very least, it's no longer going to be a "viewing-only" affair; we'll be able to have at least some effect on battles.
i honestly don't understand how you get that when he says that the game isn't meant to be about telling your ships who to fire at. It seems more likely there might be something that lets you influence a battle aka Endless Spade, rather than Total War style combat.
The problem with your statements is that you're really only giving examples of the extremes ends of the spectrum: mostly hands-off (like Endless Sp
I think you make unwarranted assumptions; I like tactical combat in other games. GalCiv is the go to game when a person wants a strategy game but *doesn't* want a tactical level. There aren't many choices out there that don't have tactical combat; the lack is a selling point for GalCiv, not a weakness to be fixed.
Except it's probable that that, too, is an unwarranted assumption on your part.
Because a very large number of people will fight a large percentage of the battles themselves if given the option to do so. Being an opponent of tactical combat, I don't think you understand this. Many people like tactical combat for the sake of tactical combat. Others, myself included, feel that the game is significantly a lesser experience without a good tactical combat game.
Precisely.
So... you agree but you disagree?
Neither. There's nothing to agree or disagree *with*. As I've already stated, what you said was irrelevant to my point. Just because Stardock helped with developing the game itself, doesn't mean they had anything to do with helping write the lore for it. It would be a little like saying (to borrow another sci-fi example) that the speci
I've been following this one for a while (in addition to M.O.R.E. and Predestination ). I'm not in a hurry to get it, and will cheerfully skip the alpha, but it does look pretty good so far.
That article isn't stating there won't be tactical combat in GalCiv3; it's just saying the combat won't be like that in the MOO series. That's fine with me, as I have little desire to micro-manage battles. You can still have tactical combat without needing to give commands to every single unit, however. Birth of the Federation and Armada 2526 are both examples of this, as are the Total War games (to in
Sins of a Solar Empire (Rebellion) was co-developed by Stardock and Ironclad, as were the forbidden worlds and stellar phenomena DLC's I believe
I'm aware of that. However, it's irrelevant to what I actually said, which is that Brad came up with the GalCiv storyline, while Ironclad created the Sins storyline. The fact that Stardock later on helped out with development of Sins has noth
I noticed how the Terran fleet split into loyalists and mutineers; reference to the Trader Emergency Coalition in Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion?
I doubt it, as they're completely separate game-universes. (Brad/Stardock created the GalCiv storyline, while Ironclad is responsible for the Sins storyline.)
I'm still banking the combat will be akin towards MOO3. Except, ya know, shelled inside a good game.
This is my hope as well -- both parts.
Well it obviously won't be for everyone, but I personally like Pandora . I enjoyed the beta, and look forward to getting the full game.
As others have noted, auto-resolve is useful for those battles where it's so one-sided you're guaranteed to either win or lose (and therefore it's not worth taking the time to play them out manually). In those situations, the auto-resolve function isn't really going to do any worse than the human player.
Would love to see that game remade and remade properly.
So very much.
I'm hoping we'll get more diplomacy options with minor races than just "Trade With" and "Conquer". I'd love to see a system like in Birth of the Federation where you can use diplomacy to get minors to join your empire.
This sound pretty cool. I'll be eager to see what Mohawk comes up with!
I too would like to be able to "enforce" my borders (in some way that doesn't require me to actually patrol/defend every single millimeter) -- during peacetime, that is. Obviously, it doesn't apply when you're at war with someone.
Thanks Bioeecologist for the elaborate answer. Does Martok concur with this describtion?
Yep, Bioecologist pretty much nailed it. The theory behind Armada's combat is sound, but the actual execution is lacking somewhat. (Also, I'm not a fan of battles having a maximum time limit of 5 minutes, but that's just me.) <
