OOOppppsss. Another double post. Sorry.

"Patience is a sterling virtue, something I wish I had more of". This is a quote from "Pockets", a character in the movie "Hatari", made in the 1960s, which I can very much relate to. I do wish I was more patient, but under the circumstances, all we can do is wait. I also want it to be good, with a low bug rate, but I wait impatiently for something substantive. And, yes, this site is the main source of information, including the tabs at the top ("game", "Databanks", "journals").
I am going to muse that they might be doing call to power style combat.
Why can't the StarDock devs invent their own style of combat? And, why can't we have some kind of control where we can choose between several levels of combat before each battle? That would allow us to match our enjoyment of the game to our mood of the moment.
Quoting michaelwhittaker, reply 1 Can we have heavy metal music on the game as an option. This would be nicer. We will have to see but maybe you can edit the music selection in the XML as a mod. I myself prefer the classical space opera-ey music.
When heavy metal first came out I heard warnings about what it would to to someone's mind. If you check Wikipedia you will find that the "correct" plural form is "octopuses". This was debated on the forum for "World of Warcraft" when it was noticed that some of the characters your hero could talk to used
I remember in GalCiv II, no matter how many ships the enemy has in a fleet, so long as my defense value for their damage type exceeds their individual damage, my single large ship can wipe the floor with tens of their small ships. I do believe this is a balance issue, as creating fewer more capable ships is a more dominant strategy than creating many smaller ships. Will this be addressed? [/quot
I don't really have a problem with AI surrender behavior, but I don't think it's ever a good thing to have "turn it off" as the only solution to a problem.
Since I like the AI surrender behavior and some others don't, I think a "turn it off" option lets each of us enjoy the game more fully.
The problem with Smurfs,Navi and Asari is why have they evolved blue skin on a green planet?
Is this any different from our many skin colors (none blue) coming from a blue planet?
My fear is that a lot of what is being talked about are ideas that would make playing on larger maps more restrictive than playing on small maps. Look at what happened between Civ 2 and Civ 3. The cost of expansion became prohibitive. Sid Meier even admitted that he didn't like large maps. It was also reported that large maps were an afterthought added after a hue and cry about there being no large maps to play. I find the large maps and long playing time in GC1 and GC2 fun. I kno
Have you listened to the podcast linked to by the tread https://forums.galciv3.com/450609 . It looks like most of the things mentioned here are already in the works for GC3. I am also quite amased at how well Paul Boyer covered just about every item in every post of every thread of this forum and what is being done in GC3 about each item.
Paul gave a lot of good information about what they are doing. I like the one thing he repeated several times, they intend to keep the fun parts in.
I've seen two good counters to this. In civilization 4 they had a way of making too expensive to have more than 15 cities. If Galactic civilizations employed something like this. It would make it unfeaseable to take to many planets. They could even expand this number to a larger number of planets. The secind concept is war weariness. This depends on the kind of governments, and it would also depend on the kind of species you have, and
Point taken - I'm not trying to diminish Stardocks work. I guess 'redesigning/rethinking' would be more correct.
It sounds like some of that is happening too, but mostly in the design details than the overall design. For example, the main map will be using hex tiles and sectors instead of square, they have added texturizing, they have changed the good/neutral/bad alignment to ideologies, the battle viewer
judging from statements here Stardock is not rewriting the game, rather expanding on GalCiv. A shame really but quite understandable.
Depends on what you mean by rewriting the game. Stardock said the story and back story remain and is extended, but they have a new 64 bit addressing mode engine, are rewriting all the code, and are writing it in 64 bit addressing mode.
I hate to spoil all your fun but multiplayer looks to me to be an effort that requires early design work, so I think they already have the overall design for how they will do MP cast in concrete.

I would hold off on buying that Steam Machine until you can find out more about its specs. One prime missing item in the article you provided a link to is how much RAM can be installed on it. I read somewhere (and I can no longer find it) that GC3 would require a minimum of 4G RAM. If accurate, that implies that 4G would support only the smaller galaxy sizes that GC3 will have available. But would the Steam Machine come with even that much? And what about the CPU they are including? T

Was (0,0,0) at any specific location or was all movement just relative to other objects?
No, there are only x and y co-ordinates in GC2. Co-ordinate 0,0 was at one corner. The co-ordinates were of sectors, not tiles. Sometimes I had trouble getting the co-ordinates to show accurately which sector I was looking at, but there is a co-ordinate display on the main map. Mike, I think your best bet is to check with your internet security provider (mine is Norton 360 from Symantec) and pursue the problem with them. I am now having a problem with something called "OfferMosquito" that is trying to hijack my browser (FireFox) and I posted a query on the Symantec forum about it. I also found a web page that shows how to remove it, but it is a process I have used many times without success. I hope you have luck with your internet security pro
