Presumably it's a WB skin, so open the main skin in Skinstudio, then use the 'save as' option from the file menu to temporarily save it under another name. Don't check the 'save as substyle' box. Skinstudio will then save only the main skin and the images used in it. Then you can delete the old version, and then resave, or rename the temp one back to what it was originally.

I'd use LS over DX any day, becauase as a theming program, LS is better. DX is pretty much just developed as a widget factory these days, so very few people take advantage of it as a theming program. Plus the taskbar and systray in it are very limited. The can only do single rows, no double height. You can build a pretty functional LS themes, with lots of neat modules, without having to know any complicated coding stuff either. It's all very straightforward text-based formats. If you know

For that kind of transparency, you'd save the images as TGA format with the transparency as part of them. Because WB5 has backwards compatability as a basic feature, you also need to create non-transparent versions too, even though you probably won't see them in use.

The layout presets are obsolete now. They used to be used to allow you to position text and icons on things like dialog buttons and taskbar buttons, but they've been replaced with content margins now.

DesktopX should be developed more to update it's themeing capabilities. Since the widget boom, it seems that side has been abandoned/neglected. I had some themes I had started making, only to have to stop because the systray and taskbar in DX is very very basic. You can't even do double rows of items. And I know of a few other people who are dissapointed in DX's limitations with those 2 parts as well.

There's 2 ways you could do it. One involves editing the taskbar background image itself in a graphics progam, and making the background totally transparent, or in Skinstudio, in the taskbar background section, add the 'Transparency - level' attribute, and set it's value to 0.

In this scene, people love anything that gets them a little bit of attention, so maybe have something like 'interaction points', and every week maybe a top 10 list on the 'popular' page listing the top 10 people. People could get points for commenting, uploading, etc etc. Could even perhaps be tied into the user levels. Once someone gets 1000 points or whatever, they'd go up a level.

Performance. If it had to constantly redraw every single semi trans pixel so it displayed the content underneath, it would probably cause a noticable jerkiness when moving a window that goes behind the taskbar.

The reason for most people using the colours is that by default, that area isn't skinned. To have it look like a button, you have to get clever with the arrow image, and make it the full size of the 'all programs' button. Then you use content margins to make it align correctly. It's not a documented feature, so most people don't use it or are even aware of how to do it.
