The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
Nastytang his Klingon ships are fantastic, I saved a few images to go into my screen saver.
Just as Nasty mentioned Omnibus on at Steam has the best Klingon and romulan designs. I think you guys ought to check out DanRage's Star wars star destroyer's at Steam as we well. They are Awesome! The best I have seen. Give Dan his props too.
Hi, I'm new to the GalCiv universe, stumbled upon it by accident. Looks like I've been missing out on a great franchise, glad to join in now.
My first starship creation is very simplistic, I am thinking it'd be fun to have a race that likes to use orb-based designs. Without thinking "death star" too much, orb shaped capital ships would (real-world physics) open up the largest firing arcs possible per weapon. I like thinking about "real-universe" designs and how each ship would be most useful for its role.
With that said, my first ship is a simple scout/survey vessel. It has enough aerodynamics that it could scout in atmospheric environments, and has the orb base. I created it a couple weeks ago and since have seen how I may have been unconsciously influenced by some battlestar galactica ships as well as loosely pulling the tri-"wing" design from TIE Defender memories. 
Oh well.
I take feedback appreciatively; I have a lot to learn with the ship designer. Some of you are real masters!

My latest design a small ship with a nice punch and good defenses. There is a lot of detail for a small ship.

Here is one completely new ship in my Star Trek designs. No blueprint or schematics used to design this ship class, I did this one from visual memory and I think I got it spot on.

I wouldn't go as far as saying we are masters. I would say we have mastered using the shipyard. A lot of us have been using it since Alpha stage. A lot of have lost ship designs due to updates that broke them and have had to redesign our ships, Many of us have evolved our skill with each new design thinking how can I make a better ship.
The more you use the shipyard the better at it you will be. When I first started my ships looked like I used Lego's, LOL.
No matter how amateur you're worried your ship designs might be, take solace in the fact that they're not a running joke on our dev streams like mine are

Tonight I start work on a Norway Class Frigate and Niagara Class Dreadnought.
Ummmm, Ed..... There is no way to do that monster right now. That ship looks like the NX-01 and the Akira class had freaky sex and nine months later that was built. God, that is one UGLY ship. LMAO!!!!
Wait until more races and ship parts for those are implemented and I'll attempt it then. Right now they ship is beyond what we have to work with.
DAMN! That is still one UGLY ship. ROFLMAO!!!!

Definitely looks cool doing the transformation! Took a lot of work to get the timing of everything right.
Nice. 
If he gets a weapon system failure he then still can step on those pesky little enemy ships, and for allies that hesitate to go into action he can give them a kick in the you-know-what.

My fleet
At the back are missile corvettes and would-be carriers, in the center the battleship, and cruisers screened by corvettes, all armed with beam weapons because pew pew pew. Most ships have animated components (really just a slowly osciliating dish except the carrier which has a simple animated turret)
