By all means, good luck!! it's not as bad or as hard as it seems and you're going to find that as good as your plan may be, trial and error is going to be one of your best friends for the next few months. the best advice i could provide is: sweat the details keep it original mind your sizing and content margins if it doesn't look good to you, it won't look good to anyone else avoid looking at other skins while you're deve

make sure that you don't have "windows classic" start panel option selected in windows....it needs to be "windows XP" style. also make sure that the "make toolbar buttons flat" option in windowblinds is not checked. these would cause the problems you're describing. also, if you bought windowblinds within the last month or so you can upgrade to 5.0 for free.

i really hope it does open up and there are cool things that come out of it. i just hope it doesn't become a standard by which everything is measured and you start seeing comments like "yeah it's great and all but it doesn't have transparency so i won't use it". for some reason those are always the comments that bother me the most...the ones that say "your work is great but it doesn't have ______ "

from my experience so far...it hasn't been rude comments that have gotten to me...it's the endless requests for different features (larger fonts, different color, compact start menu's) that never end. what i've come to find out is that you have to make something for yourself and understand that sharing it with others is just that...sharing. i think alot of us get caught up in making something that will get a good ratings and that others will like (maki

you're absolutely right. there is a huge difference between the two. when i speak about intellectual property not existing in a free skin, i'm addressing the idea that a skin that looks similar to something else is ripped. an idea that you can claim something as basic as a shape or color as your own. perhaps my idea of intellectual property is too broad...or too narrow...depending on how you look at it. my thought is that all skins are derivative of an

you say "our art". does anyone here own a copyright to their work? and is wincoustomize themselves not exploiting "our art" for financial gain? when was the last time you saw a royalty check? you're missing the point here. if you're doing this for enjoyment and for the love of it...why would you care if anyone ripps you off? i've always maintained that my work is public domain...if you like what you see and want to modify or change it in any way so be

i think it's a sad day when the term "intellectual property" is being used in conjunction with freely distributed works of art. none of us are paid for creating such works of art...nor do we ask to be paid. i like to believe that we do this for the love of simply creating something others may enjoy. i'm starting to wonder if this is the case at all. it's growing more and more difficult to post anything that at minimum doesn't draw comparisons to someth

major points...stealing bad...purchasing good...got it. what puzzles me is the music industry's complete and utter stupidity when it comes to legal download services. right now you have 2 ways to buy music...either buy the CD or pay someone like Napster or iTunes a monthly fee for downloads. i've tried these services...they are useless. you pay a monthly fee for songs you don't get to keep unless you fork over another $.99 a track for the ability to b

Welcome to the frey, dawgydad. My advice to you is to not look for tutorials or manuals and just dive right in. Reading a how-to guide can put you in a box and curb your inovation. But winging it there is no box, you learn as you go, and learn what works best for you. Downloading skinstudio was a great start, now just start playing with it and see what you can come up with. It's not as daunting as it looks and you'll be suprised with what you can do. R

Not only is there a complete lack of creativity in that community, it seems almost like standard operating procedure to completely rip off other artists without giving any mention of the original artists work at all. in this case, this person took all of the desgin credit. look for yourself, here's a link to a total ripoff of my Reinkiller skin http://www.themexp.org/preview.php?mid=78887&type=vs&view=date&page=&cat=&name=Rex+SqaD.zip and the
