Reply to Search no longer returning expected Settings/Control Panel items in Start Menu Products Stardock Forums

As expected, rebuilding the index was not a fix (plus, did you know that system applets, settings, and native modern apps are handled exclusively by a database called the Search Core Package Index, not Search Indexer?) I want to point out again that this is happening on two different installs of Start11 on very dissimilar hardware and not the same Windows version.

I found prior posts for this type of problem, but those were resolved years ago and I found no recent reports. On two different installations of Start 11 v2.72 (Modern Theme), items from Windows Settings/Control Panel no longer surface during searches. For example, 'Update' has always returned Check for (Windows) Updates but now does not. If I turn off Start 11 search, 'Update' does return the Windows Update item. Library folders that point to non-Windows default locations don't display icons. Icons assigned to these folders via Pick Custom Icon do not persist past a restart. If the same folder is added as Custom Folder Location, the icon is shown correctly. Everything Search results aren't consistent in Start Menu Products Stardock Forums

As a result of the problem I was encountering related to this post , I switched from using the Start10 style search to Start11 style. I noticed that Everything Search results using the Start11 style were not returning expected results. When I switch it off, search results do indeed show the expected result for my test cases. I guess it wasn't actually full disclosure after all. I do prefer the more compact results layout of Start10 search style if it's possible to port the change over to that as well.

Force Main app shortcut to top in Search Results in Start Menu Products Stardock Forums

Using Start11 search to pull up an app shortcut, I very frequently run into the problem of the app's uninstaller jumping to the top of search results, leading to launching that uninstaller when hitting enter before registering it mentally. This behavior is likely due to the alphabetical order of shortcuts in the menu folders, but it doesn't make that much sense given the actual app is a much better/more direct match for what's been typed in search. I tested with Windows Pro and the search results text color changed to white. I am using Windows 7 style with icons, and it does not display results that way. Checked, and Modern style also displays results in black. All others seem to be white text.

Start11 v2, Everything search results are colored black, making them difficult to read against dark menu backgrounds. The default font display color scheme for Everything results should be responsive to dark mode themes. Mouseover highlighting an individual result, ironically, will flip the text color to white, making that entry more readable, so I wouldn't suggest inverting the color entries across the board.

Everything Search support is the best addition to Start products in years. This totally fixes the problem that Start11 search doesn't return files in OneDrive which, for me, is almost anything I'd be searching for. Now, I can find both files and programs in the same interface, which is a SO much better experience.

Here's my email settings: Seems like I did not opt out of product updates. Also, I did a search and I was receiving Stardock emails until July of last year, including the Start11 v1.3 update notification. There's nothing in client-side SPAM and my server-side spam filter, which I administer, has not caught any Stardock email either.
