Anybody can do Fences Trial. Thank you, Basj, Stardock Community Assistant
Alright I tested it on a fresh Windows 11 VM with Fences 5 and ExplorerBlurMica, it happens with Fences 5 too and is definitely related to the tool if the devs perhaps want to take a look.

I found the culprit, it's caused by a open-source third-party tool I failed to consider! https://github.com/Maplespe/ExplorerBlurMica So this is not a problem on Fences' side, I'll open an issue on the project's Github. Although it would be nice if the developers of Fences could look into this as well. Here's a link to the Issue I opened: https://github.com/Maplespe/ExplorerBlurMica/issues/148</p
Not sure why you need to install older version instead installing the latest V4.22? Also, please post a full desktop screenshot so I can see and understand the issue better. Thank you, Basj, Stardock Community Assistant
Otherwise I couldn't get Fences to open for some reason but as said the reinstall didn't improve things anyhow. As for screeenshots, here are two that show the issue, Folder

I fixed that by installing Fences4_4.1.1.0-j110-Setup.exe and then upgrading to 4.22 again, however the problem with the black Folder Portals persist. I also disabled any other third-party software like Wallpaper Engine however it caused no change in behavior. The background of Folder Portals turn black as soon as the display topology changes or any navigation is done inside Folder Portals. &n
Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [ Link ]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here. Thank you, Basj, Stardock Community Assistant.
I did that though now I h

I've been using SD Software since the Windows XP days and I always liked SD as a company however when I just now saw an email that Fences 5 is available I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm more than fine with there being a subscription option for faster updates as long as a permanent buy stays available however for existing customers the pricing is an absolute slap in the face. Without knowing about the operating costs of SD I would propose the following: Fences 5 P
Restore to the actual Windows11 context menus Paul Scroggins Associate Technical Support Analyst
No offense but why? It was clearly working before also with the legacy or third-party context menus and it still works now by calling it from the Start Menu so Fences must have broken something in the updates :/
Can you test the other methods as well? If you are trying via right-click on the desktop can you also try from the desktop icon (if there is one) and from the Start Menu? Paul Scroggins Associate Technical Support Analyst
Thanks for the reply, I did that now but sadly no method of opening Fences has any effect on my system. In fact there isn't even a fences.exe in my Task Manager

Thanks for the update! This is what I was waiting for but sadly I cannot win it seems. I thought I could finally change my centered start orb but this requires to turn on the Enhanced Taskbar and doing so breaks RoundedTB so I'm back to square one. I literally cannot win, all I want is to change the start-orb while retaining the native Windows 11 taskbar :P

I recently installed the Start11 trial and noticed the "Shutdown" button doesn't match the expected behavior on Windows 11. Presumably Start11 sends: "shutdown -s -t 00" which doesn't restore the user-session in the background upon the next boot. The expected command would be: "shutdown -sg -t 00"
The start button would remain with the taskbar icons. So you can have startbutton + taskbar icons left or centred but not a mix on Windows 11. Thats certainly an interesting request however to split them. Right now on Windows 11 you cannot change the start button image. This is something thats being considered as there are complications with taskbar centred mode. On Windows 10 the button can indeed

I want to apologize too for my loaded response earlier, thank you for looking into this and taking it seriously! I'm so used nowadays that companies try to do everything in the book to increase profits and the mention of DeskScapes in the same sentence just really rubbed me the wrong way :(

Honestly I'm also disappointed by this behavior. How about adding a Wallpaper Engine Compatibility Mode to Fences that disables all Fences features that conflict with WE? That said since 3.09 works it can't be that much that is truly incompatible. That said, here's a tip from someone that partially studied economics and business: Forcing customers to use your product over a competitors by using such tactics rarely ever works, if you want customers
