By the way, if "control combat" means anything like real-time or even real-time with pause as in TW or something along those lines, involving directing movement and clicking on enemy units throughout a fight to selecttargets, I must say I would personally hate it if GalCiv went in that direction. Turn-based or maybe phase-based tactical combat, maybe like Endless Space but better... thoughI think it could really slow down the pace of the game.

Thanks, Frogboy! That is very good news, looking forward to it. :)
Probably my biggest unresolved issue with the game right now, and the main reason I'm not playing much, is how poorly the economy scales up. While I am no great player and hardly an expert when it comes to the underlying math, it strikes me that wide empires are favoured overwhelmingly over tall, the result being massive colony spam, especially on larger maps and longer games. Since the much ridiculed LEP is gone as of 1.5 my sense is that the problem is even worse. Before 1.5
It isn't easy, but after listening to the eXplorminate interview I am trying to take the long view and have a bit more faith that the huge 'potential' of GalCiv3 will eventually materialize into something I would consider great. I suppose GalCiv2 took a while to get there, and I waited... so I guess that's what I'll be doing again: waiting, and probably not playing again until February, tbh. Frogboy, I like most of what you've outlined in your roadmap but w
Frogboy, thanks for doing the interview. I, for one, am excited hearing about the things you say that you would like to do to the game... e.g. scaling administrative costs as a meaningful alternative to the now abandoned LEP, labour proficiencies
This issue has been on my mind a lot today. Although I am a new player and lack the experience to critique the game in-depth, I have to agree with the OP and with Naselus' sentiments on this one. It's a poorly thought out mechanic and economic model that allows and incentivizes this degree of SB spam (and production spam generally). Having my first go at an insane-sized map right now, andam clearly on a path to SB-Spam-Hell very early, even with the initial
Thanks for the replies. Not sure if there is a dev stream this week... Really hoping they are aware of the problemas it seems like the ai must be wasting a lot of resources on this sort of behaviour.
Some of the features I would like to see are ones that weren't carried over from GalCivII: political parties, espionage, asteroid mining, a decent editor. When ship captains are finally introduced, perhaps giving them something to do along the lines of what Sorcerer King offers with its very robust quests.
Thanks. What sizes of maps are your games, and how many factions? Do you play with a variety of settings? Does it happen much with Naselus' mod? Anyway, I hope it is discussed in the next dev stream and there aren't as many audio problems so I can hear.
Haven't tried CivBERT yet... Waiting for a big sale to pick up the expansion. But I like the suggestions. Something I would like to see are the distinctive racial paths to victory from Armada 2526.
I watched a portion of the latest dev stream, hoping to hear something about this, but there were some distracting audio issues, and I missed it if the ai parking its ships in the player's territory was discussed. Or else I just gave up before they talked about it. Did anyone notice this being talked about? Also, I am curious to know from regular players how common this behaviour of the ai actually is. Does it happen in most games or jus
I hope so, Naselus. :) Would a dev like to comment? I'm anxious to delve into the game the way I did with the last GalCiv and expect to invest some serious time in it... But I know if this 'ai using my territory as a parking lot' issue were to happen I'd be tearing my hair out. If a fix is on the way, I'd just assume wait. Again, itt is something I've been reading about for quite a while now but I've never seen a developer chime in about it a
Have the developers ever acknowledged this issue with the ai? Is there any indication that they are aware of it and are working on improvements? I bought the game during early access and have picked up every dlc since launch, but have held off playing much because it strikes me as still being somewhat lacking in certain areas, judging mainlyfrom what I've read. I have very fond memories of getting trounced by the GalCivII ai, so when I read about behaviour like what
I wish I could be of help, Walhallawalhalla , but it sounds like you and I are having similar problems... Is anyone working on an editor and map-making guide?
Sounds great. I look forward to checking out your map. I don't have anything too ambitious in mind at this stage. All I want to do for starters is quickly set up some small to medium sized maps with 2-4 players, assigning some ships and planets to each player. Some pre-composed skirmishes, basically. While I'm glad to see that there is a way at lea
Have the devs commented anywhere about future plans for improving the editor? I don't think I'm an especially lazy person but I really feel like it would be far too laborious to use it much in its current state. I've made maps for some other g
Thanks, wpkelley41. :) I haven't had time to try it yet but will soon, hopefully this evening! My sense is then that setting up skirmis
I was hoping this dlc would allow me to design a simple custom map... All I really want to do at this point is plop down a few systems and ships... basically just assign a few planets and fleets to specific races, and fire up a game for a little skirmishing. So far I've been able to place some stars and planets on the map, but I've absolutely no idea how to assign a planet to a specific race or how to place ships and assign them to a specific race. Are
That's awesome, Old-Spider! Thanks. :) Btw, I purchased the map editor and Snathi dlc's. I am mainly excited by the editor but am pretty stumped by it so far. Is there a guide somewhere that just explains how to make a simple custom map? Like how do I place a couple of ships and planets, assign them to a specific race, basic stuff like that?
