Glad to see people digging the graphics... so far I do too. Also I find that stylized graphics age a lot better than realistic ones...
Well, those are not the only two options. I would not call Starcraft II or Civ 5 graphics "realistic" either, yet they work just fine.

By the way, does anyone know if AI is moddable in this game at all? Is it hard-coded or is it in one of those xml files? Unfortunately I can not check it myself due to recent uninstalation of beta 4 thinking that the game release happen for beta testers.

Yeah, this pop-up update window and showing release date today (actually yesterday) in impulse, and sequential removal of beta 4 without being able to install 1.0 or beta 4 back tricked me as well. But I understand that they did not do this on propose, and it is one of those unforeseen beta problems. I consider this simply as a bug. Should I report it in beta forum? :P

Initially I strongly dislike the graphics especially the strong bold borders. But over the time they have adjusted it, added some colors, fine tuned, and now, it is very nice and clean. My biggest problem is that I too can not see things like "pouch of gold" - even though it is shiny, there are so many things around and it is SO small, that it is invisible for me. I have to zoom out and check the cloth map. It would be better if it was either larger, or more shiny and may chan

Perhaps it's just for beta people?
Exactly the same story for me, except I am only digital download. But been here since beta 1, uninstalled beta 4 as recommended, and no update.
And it's not even the 1.01, it is the 1.00 gold version thats up on Impulse...I got soooo excited when Impulse told me there was an update available. Evil, evil Stardock. To mess with people like that.
The "evil" part is that when I was trying to run Beta 4 to continue my game, It said something along the lines "New update is available, it is HIGHLY recommendable to install it" and ... well, no Beta 4, no v.1.0 game :(

I suspect that shards are expected to be very rare in any world, usually one or at most two shards per shard type IN THE WHOLE GAME WORLD. So I do not think it is a problem. It may be though problematic for the modes which rely on large number of shards. In this case I would put numerical value if number of shards is greater than 5, or use larger shard to signify each 5 shards.
Spartan by Slitherine allowed for ai script writing also. I remember a ravinhood101 ai from Kohan II that was awesome to play against. One of the best written ai's in the game. If it found you early you were dead usually. It came at you in hordes.
Yeah, Ravinhood was one of the best AI that rushed very well. The other one was storm...something. Those were good days...
One of the things that is missing in most of the strategy games and missing in ALL RTS games that I am aware off is the ability to set up matches of AI vs. AI. Age of Empires 2, IMHO one of the greatest RTS games ever, had exactly such a feature! In its heyday there were lots of AI tournaments, many of them organised by fan sites like the HeavenGames forums. The games were usually recorded with AoE2's in-game recording m

One of the things that is missing in most of the strategy games and missing in ALL RTS TBS games that I am aware off is the ability to set up matches of AI vs. AI. For whatever reason I enjoy doing it. Moreover I hope that we will be able to produce custom AI and include into game. We can even have a competition who writes the best AI. Something like that was done in Kohan (RTS). I still remember those superiour AIs wrote by community

I have minimized the game and put computer to slip. Then woke it up and maximized the game and exit from the game. The game crashed. Actually the sound stopped working as well even after crash - need to restart computer. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5009476/Crash3/Elemental0_98-2010-08-17T23-59-33-862.zip

I do not know if this is bug or what, but it is VERY confusing for me. I do not know what fields can be worked by the city. This is VERY important when you make a new city, one HAS to understand what is reachable by it and what is not. In the example below, I would think that I should not be able to access the air shard - it is outside of the sphere of influence, yet, the build interface shows that I CAN build it (if I had money that is, it is gray because I do not have 100g). At the sa
Those of us who have been here for over a year (like me) or even those that have been here for the last few months can tell you that the Beta testers have had a Significant Impact on the game and it's Mechanics.
I have got different impression and I had beta from beta 1. It was always "oh, Stardock internal build is several iterations ahead of what you have, so do not judge the game, just check for the bugs" - kind of thing.
What was GalCiv 1 like when it was first released? I liked that game a lot, but I didn't pick it up until after it had been out for a bit.
While it was definitely playable, for me it was not very enjoyable because lots of help messages were missing, and some mechanics was not clear. I do remember significant patches later on.
Well there's a reason to test a more finished product beyond just as an advertising stunt, and that's so you actually test things like balance, AI, gameplay, whether certain things feel like a chore, etc. This is generally considered to be vitally important in a strategy game where tragic flaws are not always readily visible to a small handfull of internal testers.
With release date set on Aug 24, there is no way they w
