Insane people with low memory will be happy to see that! P.S. ROFL'ing at the keyed car note!

You can just check them in the XML, too. P.S. Cassiopea and Cassiopeia? That could sure get confusing.
I was just trying to remember what name I gave, too. Arg. I don't suppose someone has a list they could push out? It wouldn't even need to be pretty. Just the name you'll be using on the credits then the star name. One pair per line.
I'm afraid I was very dull - "Maxwell" in honour of James Clark Maxwell.
Dull? That choice was electric! ;) Kudos to whoever picked Sagan, too. "Itsame" gave me a grin! P.S. Sorry about the pun. I just couldn't resist.
I'm thinking of just using my name spelled backwards.
Emanym? Hmm, not bad... ;) P.S. They are listing off all the names approved so far. Be sure to check before you go and duplicate somebody else. P.P.S. No spaces AND I believe it said that capitalization will be converted so just the first letter is capitalized. ThisName is going to get converted to Thisname. Final choi
Wouldn't you like to play the game for a few weeks first? It'd be a pity to name your star Marklar only to find it was already in the game. P.S. I hope these names are in a big text file or some such when the game ships so I can mod them. I'm really not looking forward to having a bunch of founders'/founders' relatives'/founders' semi-significant others' names plastered all over my galaxy.
It's a risk for sure. It's a bit like going to the car dealership and taking them up on an offer to knock 10% off the price if you skip the test drive. Actually, that's just pre-orders for a game that's already gone gold. This is more like getting a deal on a car that isn't even done being built yet. The reason I actually popped for this one was because Stardock has a pretty good history. Elemental was a nasty blot on the record but they wor
Define your own victory. You don't have to actually win a conquest victory to tell a story about the ride of a galactic empire, just crush the opposition.
I do that a lot, actually, but didn't like doing it in GalCiv 2 because then I wouldn't get credit in the forums for the win. Can't have that! I actually stuck to mostly non-violent victories, too. They were just as grindy in t
Something has been bothering me in 4X games for decades now and GC2 was no exception. I figure out that I've won the game a long time before the game admits defeat. Half the time I don't even bother to finish. The ships I'm currently refitting are strong enough to walk into any enemy stronghold and blow it away without taking any losses. I've got twice the resources any other empire has. Yet the game demands that I have twice the resources of ever
What is this? It's harder to design? So hard that doing one good 3D map will be as hard as making a dozen awesome 2D maps? Please. I'm not buying that for a second. It doesn't add anything? Yes, actually, it does. I just got done with a SotS2 game on a map with a center area and SIX spokes coming in at 90 degree angles with an empire starting at the end of each one. Doing that in 2D means you just get four coming in or you get spok
Brad, why not just make it a menu option? Everybody gets to be happy...
You've got to be very careful with that solution. If you solve disputes with preference options too much you end up with a huge list of options that nobody wants to read through. Plus you've got to test every blessed one of them and even then you can get blindsided by certain combinations of preferences.
And to the person who chose Nirn, if the planet has that irritating noise when you go to it, I am going to blow it up.
Even if you do, the planet's glow will last forever. ;) Actually, popping in names to bait Terror Stars is a little tempting! Yavin? Alderaan? Communications Decency Act of 1996? Nah, that's too old school. Eeh Aye?
!?!? People!? Seriously!? The point being made is that the tech tree is pretty different from Civ 5. Now look at how you go through Civ 5's tech tree. Nine out of ten times you're going to pick one of the cheapest ones. You can skip a technology temporarily to jump ahead and get something you really need but you'll be forced to go back and get that tech pretty soon because some other tech will depend on it. It's really just one
Players that want to use the Advanced tools in the ship designer will be able to use parts from all the styles, and even the hulls of other races. Hope this helps answer some questions.
Hmmm... I wonder if it would be better to require players to earn some of those parts? Most of the parts would be available right off the bat but the hulls would require winning a game against that race and maybe one hull would re

I think the original problem in the first post is that research is becoming outdated before it can really get out on the field. If that's happening regularly then I think it's just a problem of the research being too easy. Make it cost more to get each step in the technology or possibly speed the ships and/or shipyards up so that technology can get to the battles faster. One thing I would really like to see is technology spreading. If you're battling with
I was going to mention Spore, but it doesn't deserve to be mentioned here or compared to GalCiv
The creature creation and sharing sure does! That aspect of Spore was very well done. I hope we see more stuff like that in games to come, too. What could be trouble are the shapes these ships will come in. That should probably be altered so you don't have to worry about rude/lewd ships be
Wow, quite a few more vanity names than I expected to see. Wouldn't you rather pick out stuff that other folks would have fun finding? "Solaris" needs to be in the game. Stanislaw Lem and Asimov are both authors I like and both used the planet name. It's shown up in a lot of other SF stories, too. Come to think of it, I might have seen it in Gal Civ 2... will they tell us if the name is already on the list? Nirn would be good if Bethesda doesn&#
It's Egosoft. They do this. The game comes out full of bugs, gets horrific reviews, then they patch it. Then they patch it some more. Then they patch it and throw in some free content. And so and so on... for YEARS. You might know some other PC-specific game company that acts like this.
Well, to throw another wrench into the argument... I'm all for a purely strategic GalCiv3 but I would like to have some sort of "hooks' in the game so, when a tactical battle comes around, I have the option of running a completely different program to resolve it. I push the button, GalCiv3 saves a file with all the ship stats/shapes, then runs the other program. After the battle resolves, the other program replaces the file with the starting stats
