one of the things civ does best is how it slowly reveals resources on the map. it makes you reevaluate decisions. gives new reasons for trade or war. it also gradually complicates the game. I've not played gc3 all through yet...but so far it seems the map is very much static. those dead world's need to come alive in some way. the minor civso in civ 5 were fairly well done in the way they gave bonuses, so an alternative to conquest. stellaris also handles minors well. gc3

It's not a case of I'm better at it. I'm pretty much completely new to the game, but it's something that straight away seems out of place or unbalanced. I've got settings to occasional habitable planets and normal amount of civspace for huge size map. my gripe is.. as a newly formed space empire without a shipyard. I go from that to pumping out 12 colonies, without anyone bothering them no matter how far or undefended they are. actually.I've built no warships at all. I did this as a r
is there any balancing mechanic to stop the rush to colonise planets as soon as possible? seems unbalanced. especially when you see turns measured in weeks... Stellaris has a good mechanic where further away the Colony the more it costs in influence. at the moment I just rush to grab the further out planets first. I'm playing on gifted like. in crusade.
Hi - on Crusade, anyone else finding (or not as is it case) that there are no Minor Civs showing up? I've set a game to have Abundant minor civs, but having explored over 100systems there are none to be found. Whats going on?
Thanks I see it now, raw production. I have Crusade now.
Hi - can someone please advise what population does? Does it actually drive any of the modifiers? I don't see it in the tooltip. Given how quick population grows on new colonies, do you bother loading more than 1.0 on the ship, or even less? Thanks.
will let you know what i think in due course... just saw that the expansion and all the dlc was on a 60% off sale in steam, so went the whole hog.
sounds good. any of the other dlc to go with crusade that add depth? also has anyone played endless space 2? how does crusade compare to that?
Hi - coming back to this, so i did give the game a go back in 2016. Still couldn't get into it. I have not bought any DLC for it. So am wondering if it's worth buying Crusade? My main gripes with the game were that it was pretty bland, not much to trade, not much to build or do, poor AI, just grab territory with starbases. I have Stellaris, that game is fantastic to begin with, but also suffers from poor trade, terrible war (just one big doomstack), and not much to do midgame. <p
cheers - i'll give it a go. it's a shame these games aren't actually fully functional at release, seems next time better to wait a yr or 2 and then get them on sale with the dlcs bundled in.
Wondering if this game has had many improvements since initial release? I bought it on release, played it a fair bit, but was extremely disappointed with it, thought it lacked any depth or any of the AI that made GC2 famous. Have not touched it since... but have been playing Stellaris recently, and got wondering if this is now any good as the potential is there for it to grow. Perhaps the DLCs have improved the game, but don't really fancy buying any of it unless t
Yes I am asking for opinions, how does that make it pointless? And if it is, why do you bother giving your own opinion. It's a very relevant question for me - is the new game actually a better game than the older one. I'm not asking if it will eventually become better.
Been playing GC3 since it lauched (not beta), and am quite impressed with the engine and design. Although at the same time, quite underwhelmed by the game itself. Apart from expanding (although dont like the exploits on upgrading contruction ships), I am finding that there doesn't seem to be much to do in the game. Diplomacy is dull, planet development is dull, and battles are dull. I guess the developers will build on this game, and hopefully it wil
Looks fantastic.
how was it in GC2? Even Civ5 (which is poor compared to 4), manages to make minors fairly interesting, gives you bonuses according to how to interact with them. And gives you cause to invade or defend etc. TBH I'm quite surprised that they do nothing and have no uniqueness... seems to be a very backward step for a fairly hyped game in 2015. The game looks polished, but in fact when you start to delve, its starting to look quite hollow. If Stardock don't add fea
Something urgently needs to be done about minor races. As it stands, they are boring. They do nothing special. If anyone has played Birth of the Federation, they will know it can be fun if you give each minor race unique abilities and different tech levels (which advance with age). Then you have bonuses from being their allies/them joining your empire/conquering them. Is this ever likely to happen in GC3? Main reason I ask, is that the game as it
Don't like that at all. Seems a cheap method to limit the ships that the program can draw during battle. The one tile represents at least the space a planet takes up, not sure why you cant move 1000s of ships together.
I have a few questions too as am new to GalCiv... so I'll use this good thread! 1. Can you select more than 5 ships at a time? If so, how? If not, why!? I need to go kill a pirate base. 2. What exactly do 'minor' races do? Can you diplomatically get them to join your empire, or if you invade them, do they give you special ships/bonuses related to each particular minor race. Or are they just generic with a picture and occupy a planet? 3. How to invade a plan
Thanks for above, very helpful. I personally find the tech tree daunting... And I'm an avid civ4 player... I guess it's because in civ the tree is based on real history to some degree... So we intuitively know the path to take And understand the merits. so I have a few questions (playing as terrans) 1. Is there a unit tree? is there a general rule on how strong your ships should be in each era? 2. what techs do you go after to begin
Is there any guide for people who are new to gc3 (or any galciv)? There seems to be a wiki on gc2? If there is a link to a manual or guide that one could read on the train That would be great! Thanks.
