The vertical movement of the ships disturbs me... Maybe have a setting that shows a smooth movement? Anyways, the video is rather very limited in actual gameplay.
Not thrilled with that movement display either. My legs and balance are all shot. The ship movement reminds me of what people say I look like walking down a sidewalk. Like a drunk sailor he

You forgot the warm up training exercises for your mouse finger in preparation for marathon click fests. With little finger muscle stretches to prevent cramps. Think of how marathon runners prep for the big events.

Wow. Gamers that understand that gaming isn't always priority over everything. Another reason to love this community. I will have to wait patiently because I have work commitments. Well, I will have to pretend to wait patiently because I have work commitments.
The main issues are that as humans we are actually pretty bad at visualizing in 3D. We don't even like verticality, which is why the upper shelf in retail is called a 'retail death sentence'. Or why popular toys and candy is always lower, eye level with children. Nothing we do actually forces us to think in 3D which is why generally speaking 3D maps are very very confusing
we really need a better name for it I see it as functionally a joystick control. "Production" is too long a prefix. I want to call it a "prodstick". It's a stick I use to prod my population in different directions. Empire prodstick and local prodstick. Works for me.

As for life itself, the people I know that are benevolent do so because it is the only way they know how to be. Many people consider it a weakness. I don't. As for the game, the balance between good and evil decisions was definitely off as a gameplay thing.

I'm proud to be a walking misconception of ignorance, I tell you. It's taken years of study to get this ignorant. I re-read the OP and I have to say I still interpret it as a general response. The squirrels and teddy bears were just easy examples of what was called " the lighthearted humor in Galciv" which seems to include the diplomacy and technology dialogues and general tone. Perhaps the OP would like to chime in with a clarification of "grown up".

3D is less functionality for me. I have extreme trouble using any 3D display I have had access to so far. I guess that makes me one of those "less able to orientate themselves" you seem to dismiss so easily. That makes it "less good" for me. If, as you state, maps can be flattened, then there is no actual gameplay or functionality added with the 3D, only a pretty display. 3D has no functionality, some eyecandy, and impedes immersion. Personally, I p

Yet another vote for humor. I am sick and tired of darker=better in common social perception. Movies get darker, TV gets darker. Remakes of old fiction get darker and darker. If there aren't dystopian societies with either apocalypses or serial killers or both it is no longer "mature" or "immersive" or "realistic". Somewhere in all that, the idea of a game just being plain good fun seems to have faded away. I am hoping we can keep GalCiv a

I got lost in the references, but I am glad to hear that we figured out how to disagree. I think that's what we did. Actually, I vote for fluff stuff. Well, if I had a vote, I'd vote for fluff stuff. Well, I do have a vote, but since I'm signed up for beta, I guess it doesn't count yet. [e digicons][/e]

Sorry to hear you have to reply in snarky tones about "abide less useful numbers" as though someone else's opinion is so obviously less sensible than yours. This is especially unfortunate because I do disagree with you and feel "put down" even before I got my two cents in. My opinion may indeed be pitifully inferior to yours, but I'd like to get it out before it is rejected so dismissively. I hope replying to you is not a "flat out waste of effort" on my part. <
Here's my definition of a cheating Ai one that starts out with, or is hampered by a economic bonus, or minus. ........ Lets deal with real cheating that is giving the Ai arbitrary economic bonuses instead of them playing better.
For me, that is exactly what "cheating" isn't. In my vocabulary, that is the handicapping needed for

This is a point where I have greatest sympathy with game designers and especially game AI designers. I am not the greatest computer gamer, but I am pretty good at a lot of games, especially the various board games I have played with folk over the years. I have been accused of "cheating" at various games just for playing smart, especially if I am using knowledge of rules and foresight to set myself up in some advantageous position. The funniest was a Monopoly

I have been playing Civ since Civ 2. It was my sole video game addiction other than Myst. For years. When Civ 5 game out it was pretty poorly off and broke my computer badly. Looking around for alternatives, I found GalCiv 2. I have gotten a couple of family members hooked on it as well. Now that Civ 5 is a lot better (my subjective opinion) I play some, but GalCiv is still easier on my PC and, in many ways, more fun. I pla

I like the sliders and don't think they need to be fixed because they are not broken. However, the dial thing will do similar, so that works for me. I like the idea of empire default with city exception. The governor profile concept could work well for applying certain exceptions/specializations/whatever on planets, especially settings saved from game to game, such as possible build list types and so forth. Designing governors could be a bit

I don't understand. I know exactly what I paid for in Beta Access. I am happy with what I am getting. Nothing unethical happened, or even dissatisfying. Why are you trying to convince me I am somehow now missing something? I have no desire to input at the Alpha level. I will have fun looking at Beta level. I will do some minimum input. If you want the fun of Alpha access, you are going to need to pay for that level of fun

I am excited that you are excited. That excitement pushes inspiration and leads to higher quality work. The only way you are going to exceed your success on GalCv2 is to have that excitement, that inspiration, and maybe a little bit of help from your friends. Good luck. I consider your "hobby" work with AI to be part of the overall evolution of AI that is occurring in all aspects of computer work. Watson and GalCiv and all AIs in between are part

Let me ask it this way: There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of level 0 planets on my Immense maps. You propose I micromanage each and every one of those as to what is mined on what sort of planet? Just how is that fun or interesting? I mean, I get into micromanaging, but I am not that OCD yet.

I feel strongly that there should be an opt in / opt out button for every single feature of the game. I want to disable any messages that tell me I have lost. I hate those! (sorry, couldn't resist)

I understand that you want more and more option. I hope you understand that to me you are just asking for more and more complexity. The three sizes work well for me. The variation of what I can do within those three sizes seems more than sufficient to me. Big ships with lots of hit points and little guns. Little ships that are nothing but a gun and a hull. All have been done and all have been both useful and entertaining. Please do not break tha
Quoting NorsemanViking, reply 7 Anyways I want to underline this: The best strategy games have interesting micro. The worst and most soulless ones are streamlined to death. You may find yourself in the minority if you put "interesting" and "constructor spam" into the same sentence.
Here's a vote for the minority. Constructors swarming slowly across immense galaxies.
