I liked to play as the Terran Alliance, should give the other civilizations a try sometime. I actually played how they were described in the lore, with a very small military and using influence to get planets to join me. I traded with the other civilizations to get their unique technology and made economic and research treaties with them and tried to make most of them to enter in an alliance with me. Went with neutrality for alignment because I wanted that research building.
1) what are the main improvements from GC2?
This post from Frogboy sums it up nicely:
Yea, there are a number of areas that if you start with GalCiv II as the base, you can take it up to the next level. For examples: The UI in GalCiv II is pretty dated, GalCiv III has a really good tool tip system that gives you a lot of helpful information. We were able to expand t
This is what has been stated on map sizes:
Currently a hex sector, has a 12 hex radius, so there are 397 hexes per sector, which is a bit larger than a 16x16 GC2 sector. The smallest galaxy is currently 7 sectors. The largest we will leave as a surprise, for later. These values are all set out in data, that modders will have access to later, which should be fun.[/quote

*Sigh* This discussion again. From the Fighters/Drones, Command modules and carriers thread, reply 38:
Those who like the idea of designing carriers and seeing carriers in action in fleet battles I think will be happy. Those who imagine fleet battles that play like MOO2 (i.e. where you're micro managing individual units) will be less happy.[/
Sad to see only one production queue. Oh well, I'll wait to play it for final judgment.
In related news, this picture was posted on facebook by the official GC3 page. Is this the member of a new civilization? Or just concept art.

“The sales of GalCiv 2 were actually higher last year than they had been in the year before. We've put some considerable effort in trying to understand that. That’s not how it's supposed to work, if you understand.” If a game is good it will continue to sell. It could also be that the game served a particular part of the market, and no other game did, or at least not as good. "Right from the start in GalCiv 3, players have to choose which lines of res
I would also like to suggest that along with galactic wonders, a new category be included; regional wonders. Some could be generic, meaning any species could build them. Others might be species specific - only the specific species could build them. Constructor spam will be reduced by allowing them to have more than one module, so they can do more upgrades on a starbase. Sounds good. I also like that the appearance will differ based on civilization. So can I build a starbase that is a mix of military, culture, economics and mining? As in they can have more than one specialization ring? The new resource antimatter will be required to build larger ships? As for unique models. How about one that let's construct s
Unfortunately, it won't. The trolls will argue that Stardock meant that we're getting *short* tactical battles rather than *no* tactical battles. There will be technology to make uninhabitable planets habitable, I like that. I remember an event from a GC2 game where about 20 or so class zero planets were turned to class 6. Ship combat will not be in the Alpha. Also "Galactic Civilizations isn’t about fighting long tactical battles." Can we put the begging for tactical combat to rest now? Please.
