No problems here mostly (IE 9 beta, Windows 7 x64 + SP1). Running WB 7.2 + WindowFX 4 (both trial versions) and the Alien Invasion V2 skin (with wallpaper); however, some applications (notably Yahoo Messenger 11 beta) appear strangely when skinned (so I have to add exceptions for it).

I've just installed WB 7 GA (downloaded from Download.com thirty minutes ago), and I'm running it on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM (which also has Office 2010 x64 installed). Not exactly the friendliest of testing environments. I'm sticking to a basic skin (Aero Metal) along with a basic DeskScapes 3 DeskScape (Waterfall for Windows 7). No crasshing, and looks veery un-basic.

While Windows XP may have kicked off the want/need/desire for skinning Windows, the very fact that Windows 7 includes a lot of options that Windows XP (or even Windows Vista) does not fortunately means that it doesn't require as much to change the basic look of the operating system. Though I like (and am a former subscriber to) Object Desktop, I have less need for the entire suite of OD than I did when I was a subscriber. I have found that I can get a lot of my skinning needs met

I have seen in addition to the standard SINS a Game Of The Year Edition (specifically at Best Buy); what difference is there from the standard and Collectors' Editions at retail? The reason I am asking is because it's the same price as the standard edition and if the GOTY also includes additional features, I'd certainly recommend it over the *standard edition.

Even if you don't max out Malice (in short, you have Malice at even 1), if you *also* have researched Ruthlessness and have a sizable number of

[quote who="Sakhari" reply="10" id="1777749"]When did the Advent start getting a weapons bonus for culture? Last I checked, their culture buff was only an increase in mitigation. Personally, I much prefer using the Deliverance engine in protracted multi-star games (which is generally the only time I see superweapons used at all unless I'm just screwing with an AI). It hinders the opponent's economy, gives you a good look at their empire (provided you have the appropriate research),

I'm wondering if a "soundtrack" CD is available for SoaSE or the Entrenchment add-on (preferably both), as I find some of the background music quite nice to listen to. (Besides, I bet that you've likely gotten some requests from film or TV studios for some of the tracks.)

In fact, it doesn't even require doing anything special, as you can pretty much build basic stuff on evey planet and have the sliders set on 33/33/33 and clean up on the AI. The next difficulty level up is much tougher though. Although overall, as far as AI plays, ToA is the worst AI yet. DA and DL Ai was much better. I find the AI often plays absolutely horribly

Why? 1. Hardware and driver devs (especially ATI/nVidia/Creative) have actually gotten a clue and realized just how deep 64-

Agreed, Brad. In fact, I'll tackle your ticks one at a time: 1. The benchmarking is broken down into easy to understand categories (with separate ones for desktop and gaming graphics performance). While some GPUs perform better in terms of desktop graphics than gaming graphics (ATI's R3xx, which includes the 9700 and 9800, falls into this category), some perform better in gaming than on the desktop (RV515, also from ATI, is in this group; my X1650 PRO AGP scores a 4.6 in desktop graphics, but

This was an issue I had the first time I tried to apply Diamond (a skin that is included with the trial version of WB6). Merely restarting WB 6 solved the problem (in fact, I'm running Diamond now). The issue he is referring to is WB6 *hanging*. Actually, Diamond looks pretty darn nice (I have no other components of OD installed/loaded whatever). What is all the slicker is that, at least at this point, unlike with XP, WB6 does *not* require WindowFX for the fancier pixel trickery to

I have no problems with Outlook 2007 with a skinned Vista Ultimate (WB 5.5 public running the Adrenaline skin); in fact, I grabbed 14 mail messages from two e-mail accounts (one being GMail) as I typed this. Office is certainly used by home users (I'm a home user, and have *long* used Microsoft Office at home). Microsoft actually used to have a product geared *specifically* toward home users called Microsoft Works; however, the problem with Works was that compared to Office it came up far far short! Also, like Windows, you can purchase Office as OEM software (and, in fact, from most of the same resellers) but how many people dare to even *look* for Office OEM at their favorite e-tailer?

Or did they make a major error when originally buying that computer and went with integrated (onboard) graphics, sound, networking, etc.? The Yor *CAN* be influenced into neutrality by influence starbases (I've actually had planets go into revolt because of them when playing as the Yor); hence influence starbases can be useful (or even critical) in a culture war, even playing against (or as) the Yor. When playing as the Yor, I tend to play primarily a trade/culture war, with a reasonably strong military as a backup (sounds like something the United States gets accused of: using their cu

Actually, trade (especially between civs) is more critical in GC II than in most other RTS games, and is often the key to a culture victory (in fact, I couldn't have won my first game without it). One thing I made sure NOT to neglect, especially in the early game, is manufacturing, farming, and research bonuses on new colony worlds; the result had me become the *go-to civ* for food crops and basic manufactured goods (unusual for the Yor, who I play as
