5.If someone uses the same presets over and over in the game, The wheel becomes very efficient as you can memorize where to put the dot for each of your favorite presets and set the wheel in an instant without even thinking. With the sliders you still have to go through the steps described in no.4 and it takes longer.
Yeah this would work. If you could put markers or waypoints, s
Multiple interconnected sliders suck. They are bad UI, and it's good that they're dead and not coming back. A slider is for when you have one thing to control. When you have several, you use something suited to the task. At some point these complaints about sliders start to feel like people want it because that's how it was before and they're used to it, not because there's any advantage to it.[/quote
So, was your hate for the production wheel strong enough to commit into voting in the dreadful poll?
The devil doesn't have access to Archie Comics, so he reads polls. I don't participate in polls because I won't contribute to Satan's amusement. It's that simple. I would rather indulge in sweaty bone-jarring sodomy with the Production Wheel than v

54 Replies 13,262 Views

I don't care for the production wheel. The sliders were easier to set exact values for me. With the lock mechanism, I could set it to 20, 20, 60 with no problem. The production wheel is cute and all, but if I want that 20, 20, 60 deal, I have to go searching for the exact dot that represents those values. It's possible of course, but I still have to hunt it down. It was just easier with the sliders. Yeah, I have to have the exact va

Wow, I was really surprised to actually see some cool star names up there! I was worried that they'd all be stuff like "Bodymassage" or "Yourmom". There were a few silly ones in there, but I was still impressed. I almost felt guilty submitting "Wankoslavia".
Quoting Wintersong, reply 2Wasn't that a Mega Event? There were two such events. One was a regular random event, which provided some small bonuses every other turn to some of the receiving race's abilities. The other was a Mega Event, which provided a bonus to all of the receiving race's abilities each turn.
Yep, what Gaunathor said!

I always played with mega events turned off. The pirate one just killed the game for me when it happened. However I think there was a regular event version of the one you're talking about too. I could never tell if it made a difference or not though. Anyway, if it's not on a toggle, it should be easy enough to fiddle with any event in Galciv 3 (or make your own) by editing the XML files.
Haha, I read all the tech description BECAUSE they are so corny. Well, i can understand your point of view, but there can be only one official flavour of GalCiv, Original. And original tastes funny. If you want serious taste, your best bet would be that someone make a "serious" galciv mod and changes the text in it. As far as modding is concerned this kind of stuff is usually pretty easy to do. Maybe it already exist
Yeah, I know, I read the thread. My question is rethorical. Whats the link between humour and immersion in a scifi game such as this, and is it significant? For me, humour is a really efficient vehicule for setting the tone and carrying tons of information, so it works for me.
Turning Star Wars into Space Balls would have completely ruined the tone of the movie (f

I guess I'm in the minority, but I absolutely despised all the "humorous" dialogue and tech descriptions in Galciv2. In fact, the writing was the one thing I really did hate about the game. If this was Donkey Kong, I could maybe see it being light hearted, but in a game like this I'd rather it be as science fictiony as possible for the sake of immersion. It just gave me the feeling that the devs didn't even take their own game seriously (which seems to be true, s
--- It sounds to me here that you want to take more of the fun out of this game
I played Civilization 2 and 3 for years and never got bored. Neither of them had tactical combat. The fun part of Galciv games (for me) is the empire building and grand strategic decision making on a galactic scale. There are already tons of strategy games out there where combat is the main focus.
