Ok it's the patch, not the vulnerability that will slow things down. Now as far as bits per second over the network that doesn't matter. Information will still transfer 100 gigabits per second for me. What will slow down is the computer itself not the network. As far as network the speed is whichever is the slowest computer involved. What we are talking is the computer if i'm understanding this do to the patch you processor will slow down 17-27%, and your ssd drive anywhere between 8-40 perce

I have to ask why with being in the midst of the worst computer problem in a long time, and intel taking the worst. Why not wait until they get the bios fixed, so it won't have to use the operating system, and slow down the computer. At least in the beginning Amd is going tocome out dominating. Current processors will have to rely on a patch which Amd will fare the best right now, but to be honest being a Cdo you will just buy another computer when they fix this thing while we have to live wi

[quote who="alaknebs" reply="68" id="3700261"] if you are going for dual channel, you have to install them as pairs (bigger pair 1st), no? not sure what you mean 1 stick of each making 24ghz per channel. googling gives this random quote.. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3453470/motherboard-dimm-slots-supports-dual-channel.html "The extra two slots just allow for more ram to be address even though it is still only dual

[quote who="starkers" reply="66" id="3700209"] Not that I've got the cabling accessories yet, but just to get an idea of how it'd look when done, I thought I'd plug the power cables into the motherboard and add the SATA and other cables. Well it's not going to be quite as tidy as the other build, given the all additional parts and cables, but at least now I have a better idea of how everything will come together. As for using some IDE drives, well I changed my mind and i

You would think it is a bit overpowering; until you look at ancient or wealthy, these are definately good counterparts to this. Maybe others are weak compared to these three. I think the Iconians were made to be the species to be played with tall in mind. The research, and social would be fine with a large empire penalty on large maps. The game was originally made with some civilizations playing tall; while others play wide, but why is everyone playing tall now. The only bonus I would change

[quote who="general Patton" reply="3" id="3700351"] Its the Iridium. I believe they went the crummy Progamtic route. Luxury trade routes no immune to flip. Especially now with changes to a starbases, trading quantity of constructor for money and resources. I liked the old way of starbases. Just build constructors with multiple constructer slots. One constructor does like 4 parts don't need progmatic abilties either that kicked it to 8 parts

Well the advice is fine. I would say building colony ships are fine. Remember put down your manufacturing hubs before anything. Question do you asteroid mine. Do whenever possible. If you use a bigger map you will have more time. 2 things to do right off the bat when you meet someone, talk to them declare friendship then I back to diplomacy some civilizations will let you get open borders when you first meet them others make you wait a turn. This will help you make friends. Do you have trade

[quote who="starkers" reply="33" id="3700102"] As much as we all try to explain it, and I don't know we can, I think the proof in the pudding has yet to be revealed. In other words, let's wait until the Intel and Microsoft patches have been applied and then see what a performance hit there is. My Intel machine is in pieces at the moment, and due to life's various distractions I don't know when I'll get to reassemble it, so I won't know what the impact for me is until I get ar

[quote who="JcRabbit" reply="28" id="3700081"] Quoting starkers, reply 22 I know that if I were an Intel CPU owner from within that time frame, [which I am] I'd be mightily pissed at the huge performance hit, but I'd also be suspicious.... very suspicious. I mean, why has this only come out now... a 10 year old flaw?

It's still within the return period and I'm considering just returning it and waiting until the perfected chips are being used in new devices. [quote who="alaknebs" reply="61" id="3700144"] it was a jokey comment. just saying there's kinda no point deciding whether to go intel/amd based on security... as they will all eventually be found to be crap. ... what do you mean peeling banana.. just wait for the banana skin wedge craze. Well i will probably never buy intel again. I bought my computer last year only to find it is going to slow down at least 15 percent. This is like intel processors not amd were to hot to overclock. Actually there shared caching was there only real advantage without it their archetecture werent good enough.
