Civ 6's GD forum has 5 active threads in the last 24 hours - this is on a AAA title released within the last 6 months. Civ's best days are behind it and I blame 1upt introduced in Civ 5. It (Civ in general) is no longer the 4x standard-bearer, and hasn't been for years now. It's a mobile game these days.

Checking back again. Is starbase spam still de rigeur, or is it limited by some game mechanic now?
Sorry eris you're wrong. It's good to make more money. Do you deny this? If so, then discussion over. Enjoy nirvana or whatever state of enlightenment you've attained. For the rest of us, making more money is smart, and economic starbases do this. More make more, so you build as many as you can. Because I don't like to be stupid. Do you like being stupid? Nirvana sounds nice. And yes, it DOES have something to do with the AI, as in it highlights yet another AI
The real issue involves both the option to build this many econ starbases and a poor AI. The most frequent reply to my position has been that you don't "have" to build that many. I understand that, I really do. I know I don't "have" to. But if it makes me more money, it is stupid not to. And I don't like to be stupid. So I do (did, as I haven't played in a while) it. However, the bigger concern is AI. If making max econ starbases is a net positive, why doesn't the AI do it
It has been a while since I played, but one thing I remember about the AI was being confused about their build choices on planets. Also, I *think* they had a problem upgrading buildings, or changing their builds when they added worlds to their empire based on newly acquired resources which would change their optimal setups. That kind of stuff. An "administration" system sounds interesting to limit starbases. In my opinion it should be structured in a way that limits your ability to sp
I know I made this post a few months ago, but I couldn't decide if it was smarter to create a new thread to ask this and then rehash everything in this one, or just use this one so that the context of what I want to ask is already here. Sorry if I chose incorrectly, I went with using this one. I just want to ask if the whole starbase thing is still like this (16 bazillion starbases per planet), or if it's been changed. I haven't played much since I made this thread and fig
Wow i'm wrong because I think I have never built more than a hundred starbases
That is correct. [e digicons]|-)[/e] In all seriousness, the right resource cost would have the desired effect as well. Maintenance is probably not the best route, otherwise maintenance of econ starbases would outweigh their benefit and render them useless entirely. Unless it was based on some exponential
I'd take a manicuring boost right about now
Got a chuckle from you guys' replies, thanks 🙂
You are all super awesome with your 18 starbases per planet. I know you guys think it's hardcore to spam click module lists every 3 seconds for a new starbase. I wish I could be more like you. I bet you're so hard core you don't even need modems to connect to the internet you've all trained your vocal cords to shriek and intone over the phone lines to make your connections. And you're so pro you don't need m/k you just use an electrical switch to send 0's and 1'
I like the influence and military starbases but the economic ones are a pain. It really isn't the idea of economic starbases itself - it's the fact that you CAN get up to 6 starbases to cover a planet - which means that if you want peak production you HAVE to make 6 starbases covering EACH planet. I think planets should only be affected by 1 economic starbase each, that would be much more reasonable.
For what it's worth to anyone I am pretty sure I fixed my issue. I haven't used a page file since I bought an SSD 3 years ago. 16 gig of RAM you shouldn't need a page file. Haven't needed it either. But this game wants one. So set up Windows to let it manage a page file (virtual memory) and you're fine. SSD's are good enough today that it shouldn't really matter durability wise. Still slower than RAM though. Idk why the game thinks it needs to just keep on going ri
Do these options apply to the AI too, or just the human player? To be as specific as possible: If I turn off tech brokering, can the AI also only trade tech it personally researched? If I turn off tech trading entirely, is the AI also prevented from trading techs under any circumstances?
I too am running out of RAM frequently. I have 16GB. It's fine that it uses as much as it can (that's why it's there) - it should just stop before it crashes the game.
