1.8 Stability has suffered

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the crash rate increase?  Pre 1.8 I had little to no stability issues now after 100-150 turns i get random CTDs with no apparent common cause.  I can reload last saved and get another 6-12 turns in before another CTD.  Tried a new game with MODs off and no difference

I keep getting out of memory errors and I have 32 GB RAM.  This is a relatively new issue.

I too am running out of RAM frequently. I have 16GB. It's fine that it uses as much as it can (that's why it's there) - it should just stop before it crashes the game.

Update

after some additional testing the stability problem appears related to graphics options settings

My system:  GTX 970 w 3G ram;  I7-6700 w 32G ram.  Not super powered but no slouch either.

Perform Opts= high = bad stability

Perf Opts = low= good stability [at least for 10 turns]

I was on custom but i do not recall exact settings.   Will try turning things up slowly and see if i can find which option

is the problem.    anybody have thoughts on which opts are highest -lowest loading

For what it's worth to anyone I am pretty sure I fixed my issue. I haven't used a page file since I bought an SSD 3 years ago. 16 gig of RAM you shouldn't need a page file. Haven't needed it either. But this game wants one. So set up Windows to let it manage a page file (virtual memory) and you're fine. SSD's are good enough today that it shouldn't really matter durability wise. Still slower than RAM though. Idk why the game thinks it needs to just keep on going right past the amount of RAM you have. Whatever.

16GB RAM

1000GB SSD

i5 4th Gen Quad Core

970gtx

26GB Paging File Size

Halfway through the game, my screen will pause and I hear my fans turn on in my rig and CHUG like no tomorrow.  1 minute later, unfreezes the screen and keeps going.

Memory being used is like 99% of physical memory.

After this point, just moving a ship takes a 4 second pause before it moves.

Maybe cuz I am playing on a 27" with 1440p?  But it seems more CPU / RAM intensive than video intensive at this point...

This -ALWAYS- happens. No matter what game I am playing (at least on very large maps with many opponents) so its not a save game issue.

Its not a memory leak issue either, as restarting the game and loading it doesn't "fix" it.  I mean, It makes it better fora few minutes but comes right back.

I can play Civilization 5 on the biggest damn maps with tons of opponents and it doesn't get this bad, so something is up with the game engine.
