It seems that Steam does not really uninstall everything that is related to a game when you select Remove Local Content. As was suggest by Brad Ather for the third time after uninstalling and re-installing, I had to go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ and delete the Galactic Civilizations III folder. I am happy to report that it did the trick and the game is running.

This issue might be related in that the game on my laptop tries to run but I get a list of errors generated from an xml file basically stating that it can find certain files. But I don't get error code that Shroomworks has. I still have an open ticket on this issue by the way, and I would suspect as well that there is something wrong with the installer.
This issue is still unresolved. Even after doing a full uninstall / install and opting-in on beta 6.
I would suspect that it has something to do with a fresh install, since I have tried to install this on a new laptop. I can almost bet that I would not have this issue on my desktop at home since the game has been installed on my desktop since beta 2, I think.
Support ticket VWL-701-76194 has been submitted. It appears that the game is not installing properly.
Just downloaded the latest version today and I get the following errors: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III/Data/Core\Campaign_CampaignDefs.xml(26,27): error: missing elements in content model '(Conquest,Research,Alliance,Influence,Ascension,TurnLimit,UnitedPlanets)' C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III/Data/Core\Campaign_CampaignDefs.xml(109,27): error: missing element
I also got a crash when encountering pirate protected anomaly. When I clicked yes the game stopped with the Idle Ship grayed out in the Turn button. Well Maybe not a crash since I could still move around on the map and exit the game without having to use Task Manager, but the game would not advance any more.
