I have an FX 8370 and have not experienced any problems like this. Game runs pretty smooth. Then again, maybe if I run an insane map instead of an immense I might notice something.
The only problem I've had with surrendering.... I was beating up one of the AIs, and rather than surrender to me it surrendered to one of the other AIs who was barely even attacking him! Better yet I had a fairly new non-aggression pact with the guy who gained all the planets, so I had to sit there and wait a good long time before I could renew the war. Just a

Altaria HATES you if you are not the same ideology as them and the Kyrnn are worse. The Kyrnn are usually the first to declare war on me. I noticed that last night when I was playing, too. The Thalans and Terrans were on good terms with me, so we formed alliances and influence treaties and exploration treaties. Drengin hated me so there were less options. I think it's more realistic that way, though, and I like it. I can't just treaty people into alliances if they hate me. Well unless I want to bankrupt myself with a lot of bribes, but I bow to no-one. Especially not slaver scum. [e digicons
I remember when in GC2 everyone would surrender to the Thalans. By mid-game they would have like 1/2 of the map because they looked at someone funny... on the other side of the galaxy! It prolonged the game, but damn did it become a grind (especially on immense maps).

I love playing on gigantic and immense maps! Gives you that real "galactic sized" feel. I'm guessing the stats for small map sizes are people jumping in for a quick game. I kind of want to see them return in an expansion that will be focused on espionage and diplomacy. The Drath were really great in that role. I doubt they all died since they were shapeshifting dragons! Probably just out there someone rebuilding their numbers.
I agree about power in terms of military and not enough on production. I was almost always dead-last compared to the other races even though I had better production and economy.
I'll be honest, it sounds a bit hilarious because it's like the AI is giving you a trojan horse kind of gift. [e digicons][/e]
Yeah, I know I have a point for unlikable (-1), but even the MINOR RACES hated me for fleet build-up (I had no defense ships) And started demanding stuff from me. And when I did have a defense fleet and attacked them they kept saying how they outclassed me. I crushed them in like a turn and they had no fleet. Surprisingly the Thalans liked me from the beginning.
After playing the game a bit, yeah, there's a lot of random crashing lately. And again, creating custom races is pretty limited when it comes to color schemes (I tried to play a game against the Thalans and man, it was hard to distinguish between Swamp and Thalan green when we touched borders). And as has been mentioned, typing text for race descriptions should be better than it was, it feels like how it was in Gal Civs II. Also, I haven't figured out how to simply edit my created rac
Yeah, it seems the custom races creator took two steps forward and one step back from Gal Civs II. I hated that I had to choose a color theme (like Swamp) and not just choose from a color palette like in the past to mix-and-match what we want. And yes, importing custom portraits and flags should be as easy as it was in GCII. Luckily, we're still in Beta and these shouldn't be hard to change/add.
I hate that we aren't able to pick our colors, just color themes.
I like the idea of Minor Races being able to form leagues or pacts of mutual protection. Brings some spice to the game. Like they have some representation in the UP. Stardock could take a page out of Civ V: Brave New World with the World Congress, and have it that if you ally with a Minor Race, they give you their votes. It would be a good incentive to keep them around and be fought over by the major races looking for that one vote they need.
Thanks, Stardock! Been waiting for this update! Now I can bring back my custom civs from Gal Civs II, but better!
I used a Custom race in Gal Civ II. It does kind of suck that a few races have to disappear, but hey, lore is lore. I just hope the Custom Race building is still there and you can go a bit deeper when it comes to customizing it. I always preferred to make my own stories in the Gal Civs universe.

Vastly improved Gal Civ II with added multiplayer is exactly what I've wanted from Gal Civs III.
I guess it makes sense for a balancing approach. Personally, I always focused on exploration, colonization and infrastructure first. Colonize as much as I could in my immediate vicinity, while researching techs meant to enhance the economy and research. By the time the colony rush was winding down, I would have carved out a decent-sized empire and have one of (if not the best) economies and research ranks in the game. So while the AI focused on the military and beating the snot out of each ot
Successful troll is successful.
I like the idea. One thing I will say though, is that at a certain point if you pursue Malice more than Benevolence and vice versa, it should lock you out of the other tree. After all they are complete opposites. It wouldn't make sense if you tried to pursue both Benevolence and Malice, because I think that would destabilize the hell out of a nation in real life (would be an interesting thing to see). I think both of the extremes can work with the Pragmatic choice, but only to a certain e
Dead planets used for extraction purposes would be a great idea (make it a tech you have to research). I also like the idea of them being used for pirate bases.
