It's not the same. Forming an Alliance you are joining together for mutual protection with no predefined goal. Coalition is purely to commit military resources for a single goal.
Starbound_Dust
Similar but seperate to Alliances, players and AI should be able to form coalitions where the coalition forces all declare war against a single foe. The coalition lasts for a variable amount of turns, from 4 turns minimum(1 month) to 52 turns(1 year) maybe more or until the target force is destroyed. Assuming turns are still going to be 1week long. This would be used when one force gains an overwhelming advantage against the other forces or against forces that are neari
Yeah you can't really compare GalCiv to Sins. They're both great games, but they play differently. I do hope you enjoy turn based strategy as well as RTS. Because $99 is a lot of money, especially if it's spent on a game you're not going to enjoy. Of course there is no guarantee that people who like the GalCiv Series and TBS games will enjoy GalCivIII but I'm betting there is a very high probability that I will.

It would make a lot of the mathematical aspects of the game difficult, especially of the "what sector am I in" kind. That being said, the only way I can envision sectors of hexes is as a hex of hexes. After drawing som
A hex sector, is X number of hexes out from the center in all six directions, the result is a hex shaped sector, not circle, or square.
Thanks, that clears things up a bit
Well the sector lines themselves, may actually cut through individual hexes, so part of the hex is in one sector and another part is in another, I'll see If I can find an image to show that clearly.

Yeah Good vs Evil is Old fasioned now, I like how it's done in Sid Meiers Alpha centauri, where you pick from a set of policies Each faction would then like you better if your policies were ones they liked, and would hate you more if you didn't do things their way. sidenote: does anyone else always wipe out Miriam at earliest opportunity? GalCivIII could have many many more policies to choose from than in SMAC.
I will be getting a new processor, Graphics card and Increased RAM just so I can make the most of this game(within a reasonable budget limit) when it's released. It's almost like buying a new games console just for one game, except that the improvements will make all of my other games run more quickly and smoothly also. I'll just have to see how much disposable cash I have left over after christmas. I don't think I'd have done this for any other game though.

Posted to the wrong thread for some reason so reposting here:
GalCiv2 is far from perfect, but that doesn't make it less of a great game. I know GalCiv3 won't be perfect, but I've put down my pre-order money so I'm betting it's going to be at least as great as GalCiv2. No game can be Perfect because every gamer is different. As for the features that have been suggested. I trust that the devs will be able to p

The third dimension isn't as important to me as much as having a challenging AI to play against and the opportunity to match wits with another human player. plus 2D map really doesn't detract from simulating a galaxy like our own either, the galaxy is flat enough that travelling from planet to planet and star to star is effectively on a 2D plane anyway.
GalCivII may be old, but it's one of only two strategy games that I keep coming back to time and time again. The other being Cid Meiers Alpha Centauri.

Judging by your post Pikosil you didn't play Twilight of the Arnor expansion for GalCivII which added unique tech trees for each race, which made the Yor race my favourite. They still needed 'farms' to increase the population cap, but these were called energy crystals, or something like that, I'd have to check to get it right. Anyway I fell in love with their planet improvements from that expansion.

uh, scratchmy last comment, Stardock has finally let me install up to version 1.5, I can play DA now, yay. :D
yeah, I', still having the same problem, the expansions downloaded fine, but when trying to patch Dread Lords to 1.5 it fails and gives the "The beta of the application uou are attemting to download is not available." message, every time I try to download it, I managed to patch it up to 1.4 via external sources, but without 1.5 I can't play Dark Avatar properly, I hope someone can help here
