fustrated at the utility only working in SOME of my computers and not gving th errors you have been getting in ANY of my machines. I do knot know kwhy kthe kprogram kdoes knot koperate kon ksome kmachines kand kdoes kon kothers, the main suspect is the vb6 runtime or vs6 installations, but until I can figure it out the best I could do is to convert the particular files in one of the machines that it DOES work on. which file in which part of sotf do you want in tx

the value looks good, but do knot know kwhy the registry error is happening. have even tested on my rebellion runnable machine, no registry errors (btw win7 ult 64bit w avast set to max sensetivity), but for some reason it does not seem to be actually using the convertdata or the convertdata is locking up, so I will have to do a bit more testing harpo, the frustrated ghost NON-subscriber

1 click on start button, 2 in search box type regedit 3 in the left pane look for hklm, click on it,then look for wow6432node and click on it, then look for stardock and click on it, then look for drengin.net and click on it, then look for sinsrebellion and click on it, 4 now in the right pane look for a value labeled 'Path', the value should be the fully qualified path to the sins rebellion.exe and should exist if rebellion has been run harpo, the ghos

offhand the only thing I can think of regarding the registry error is to make sure that you have a registry entry in the HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>sinsrebellion(assuming 64 bit windows for 32bit remove the 'Wow6432Node') with a name of Path and a text value of the full path to the rebellion.exe. the convertdata's should be either in the same folder as the textbin gui OR in the game installation folder (on one of my machines, I have my wo

as I have been developing the utilities (initially with xp but now on w7 ultimate (and have been using avast free set to maximum sensitivity settings) and had no problems, but the name of your antivirus suggests it it is a bit bite first then see if it survives, then bite again and repeat. would it be possible to disable the vipre while you use the utility? harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

and another way is to click on the blue palemoon button on the top left of the window, then go to the options (hover over it, then another submenu pops up with another options, left click on the SECOND options, then in the general tab type the web address you want harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

the convertdata's only need to be in the same folder as the textbingui OR in the game install location, but the registry error suggests that your antivirus or other defences are blocking access to the registry to prevent malware/virii from infecting thee computer, BUT to the best of my knowledge my utilities ARE virus/malware FREE and do not need to install. you could try running as adminisitrator and see if you do not get the error. if you are still getting the registry e

the original I refer ti is the 'ORIGINAL' sins of a solar empire game from before the entrenchment/diplomacy/trinity expansions that then had the steam based rebellion expansion happen that also moved the saves, maps & mods into the mydocuments/my games area. the textbingui has a couple of differnt versions (the one in the OP that is for the PRE-rebellion sins) ,and the rebellion compatible version in post 208 above. the textbingui first checks the path(by c

just CHANGE the lines so that they do NOT read 'debug', e.g. add a space in the line, delete a single letter, replace the entire word with different word, the 'danmdebug' will be fine, the my documents are the rebellion mods only, original sins/entrenchment/diplomacy/trinity all use the user name/local path to the mods the textbingui does INPLACE conversion of the files between modes, so there is no need to convert in another location then copy into the working

my textbingui converts entire mods and entire mods(entire collections of mods) folders between text & bin modes BUT does NOT do single files and does look at the folder names to the files to determine which of the convertdata's to use, and you might want to alter the 'debug' lines in the targetsinsver.txt and sinsref.txt to NOT read 'debug'. harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

the convertdata to use is the one for the expansion AND version the mod is for, and will fail if you attempt to use a expansion or version different to the one used to convert TO bin as the bin codes change in each expansion AND version. and as my collection is the main source for the many older convertdata's you could use the textbingui.exe with the mod it the correct mods EXPANSION vVERSION folder and the gui will use the correct convertdata. harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

use one of the bin to txt conversion methods, eg my text bin gui OR batch files. the clue is the first THREE characters of the file being BIN for BINary mode (faster loading but not human editable) and TXT for TeXT mode(slower loading but easily editable by humans) harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

the many download and install updates, then reboot and repeat happens in win7 & 8 as well, and also can cause the dreaded 'update(s) failed to install restoring to previous state and reboot', then re-download and install all the updates, rinse & repeat harpo, the ghost NON-subscriber

benmanns, from the tiny amount that I have seen and read regarding the issue, the ONLY licences that can get the LONG TERM service branch are the ENTERPRISE licences, all other licenses are either the 'get it NOW and suffer the problems'(home) or the 'get it within 8 months or LOSE the licence'(pro) branches harpo the ghost NON-subscriber
