As i sit here this Christmas Eve, in front of a crackling fire, snuggled up with a warm laptop, and some GC3 Screen XML, I find myself feeling grateful. It has now been a year since i took over as Designer of GC3, and it has already been one hell of a ride. I am very lucky to have a great game to build from, and such a talented team to work with. But as I sit reading the Forums, I realize that i am very lucky to have such a strong community as well, one cares about Gala

Let me say, Your
I remember reading a lot of reviews on GalCiv 2 and I can't remember a single complaint about the interface. Could it be improved? Sure - but there is always diminishing gains to be had here - and I worry when resources are being spent on chasing demographics that aren't likely to be interested in the game in the first place.
I cant promise that we wont be changing mechanics that you love, but i can promise that we wil
The Elemental Games have entirely different Mechanics when it comes to research, taxes, production, etc, In GC3 Population control will be handled more or less the same way as it was in GC2, leaving room for improvement of course.
They mentioned a history page being added to Galactic Civilizations III, This was in the game in Galactic Civilizations II in the Civilization manager under events... Is it me or was that exactly what they were talking about at 30 minutes in? Maybe more specific or more in detail but essentially it's already in the previous version on the game?
Yes, But the Event list was did not really give as much us full info
This is an awesome post, I can honestly say that everything mentioned above has been addressed in GC3, some with solutions much like you suggested. Others by substantial changes in game play. I think you will be happy. However I will say that I never thought to have planetary governess preview what they should build when selected, this is such a obviously good idea that I am now officially stealing it and claiming it was mine ;).

We will have multiple screen sizes for the UI, to make sure crazy high res monitors can still read text, and more importantly the UI should just get Crisper, at these higher resolutions.
But i think the label for the selected ship type shouldn't be "Race:". What about "Type:" or "Class:"?
Ya, that was race at one point, might be moving class from there as well. Just trying to keep you guessing ;)
We are adding allot of new stuff to the maps, some of it is dynamic, not in the case of system, no planets rotating stars, etc, but we do have some fun stuff for you. More to come.
A lot is going on already in that screen shot. And the main map in top right looks intriguing; the hexagons are bigger there. I hope at least that map will be 3d.
Yes, everything is 3D, you will be able to do all the crazy zooming in and out you want, much like GC2, but better.
The Iridium Corp. has the same race logo as the Krynn Consulate in GalCiv 2. Interesting.
Just a place holder, they will have there own logo.
I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I hope the visuals are as good as this or better in the final release!
You can count on that, but I'm going to bet on them being even better.
It looks like it's 64 bit, so you should be good, the integrated graphics might not support the highest graphics settings, but it should run it fine. Keep in mind recommended specs are not finalized yet. Just letting you know.
We will be doing some Ship Designer Reveals before to long, you should be pleased.
As you wish ;)

In GCII there were only 5 “styles”, that were used to build all 12 major races, pirates, minors etc. In GCIII each Major Race will have its own unique style. Which will consist of many parts, 50 or so. Depending on style. (Not including functional components, weapons, dives, and such.) These parts will be used by use to create each race's, hulls an
That is a wonderful idea. ;) We have already announced that we are going to hexes in GC3. If you want to take a look, there is a full thread about it, here. https://forums.galciv3.com/449010/page/3/#3410823
OK, so theoretically, a tiny map, would look something like this, not that i would know. [e digicons]:X[/e]
so I assumed GCIII would have hexagonal parsecs forming hexagonal sectors.
You awesome correctly. For the record, your sample would be a sector with a radius of 4.
A hex sector, is X number of hexes out from the center in all six directions, the result is a hex shaped sector, not circle, or square.
If you start an "immense" map you have 22x22 sectors. But I think this map size came with Twilight of the Arnor. Can anyone confirm that?
Yes, immense was only in twilight.
teasers or info would be welcome.
Currently a hex sector, has a 12 hex radius, so there are 397 hexes per sector, which is a bit larger than a 16x16 GC2 sector. The smallest galaxy is currently 7 sectors. The largest we will leave as a surprise, for later. These values are all set out in data, that modders will have access to later, which should be fun. That said this is something we will be tweaking for quite a while
