Nucleawasta, I'm pretty sure the level of changes in which Turn-off Auto-Upgrade is located is not "In-Game", ie you have to make the changes on that list, then start a GalCiv3 game (in the same way you can't suddenly decide mid-game that you're sick of those pesky pirates and change their Occurance from Occassional to None). At any rate, once I downloaded v4.0, before I started my first game I turned Auto-Upgrade off so I could be wrong about being able to make that level of changes

I can testify that kind of thing is random, skywalkerhogie. One game, I had not one, not two, not three, but four Perfect (ie 16+) Planets within easy distance of my Home Planet (by easy I mean the beginner Colony Ship could just mosey along and grab them). Some with very useful Artifacts - Chimeric Biomass, Precursor Archive - as well. And they were in systems with other planets with the same or similarly useful goodies - either more Artifacts or heaps of one type of resourc

Update from The Land Of The Long White Bra Used As A Face Mask (New Zealand is also known as Aotearoa, "the land of the long white cloud", for those of you going "mrbondini, WTF!?"): The western part of Auckland was allowed to keep it's liqour stores open because they're under different rules there - no idea why, but they are. Anyway, the totally predictable happened and everyone from the rest of Auckland got in their vee-hickles and took a little drive to West Auckla

Update on the liquor situation: It can be done online, with couriers being regarded as an essential service. However, it's now contactless - keeping at least two metres between buyer and courier driver. So, that's the spirit! And so's rum...And so's vodka....and so's..... :) Went supermarket shopping yesterday. Obviously, it's impossible to never get with 2 metres, but as I understand from WHO advice, so long as the contact is over with 15 minutes, an infected folk sh

Hi from Auckland New Zealand. Covid19 Count 102 in total, no deaths, not sure how many cured. A Nationwide One Month Lockdown starts 11:59PM Tomorrow Night. Keeping 2 metres between each other, avoiding all except those you live with, rules like that... Fortunately, as a supplier to an essential service - fire, mainly - which is remaining open, I'm still part-time working. Our government is deciding whether or not liqour stores are an "essential service" and can therefore, lik

I've had a lousy couple of days. Yesterday, I got a letter from a specialist telling me I'm dyslexic. Today, I get a letter telling me I have the racoon virus.

It sounds to me like it's W A I. You can't cancel the trade route - as the Yor established it. Perhaps you have to destroy their trade ship? Once the trade route ends, then you can propose the embargo. I presume you've been able to do this on earlier builds? In which case, if you have, then I've got it wrong but if you could do what you propose, it seems a bit of a weird way of breaking up a trade route/annoying another race. &nbs

Sorry if this has been solved/answered elsewhere in the negative (ie I'm wrong about this, which is possible , it's never happened before, though :) ), but: As I understand the screenshots, you're playing as the Torians and you've got a trade route with the Yor. You want to tell other races not to trade with the Yor. The GalCiv3 wiki says Embargo Third Party means: Embargo a third party's civilization, refusing the establishment of trade routes and severing existing ro

Well, he did once confide on this here forum that living was his favourite form of existence... And since we're both Founders , after all, he's duty bound to do our bidding, right? Unknown_Hero, fantastic ideas that I'd be in line just behind you to buy if Stardock ever did anything like this. This goes a major way bowards making Xploit what it really should be - ie more about Xploiting people, less about Xploiting resources. Now, we just have to influence frogboy and all his frogs at Stardock to get this DLC underway. We can sell it with a Free Ship Designer Upgrade (which, if you go into it, is actually virtually nothing!) to suck in all the GalCiv3 players wh

Yep, "public" I would take as the operative word in SchismNavigator's response. I heard they're still deciding what to call the sequel as Chinese Democracy was taken. :)

And I suppose on top of however long working on a new feature takes for you developer-folks in terms of programming, testing, balancing, rechecking etc etc it must really hack you off when you take all that time on a feature you think your game/software's audience will just fall in love with and the general consensus is "Meh! Tried it and hated it!" or "New feature? What new feature?" I mean, as an example in GalCiv3, how many people play multiplayer versus the numb
But you can already do all of that stuff. I challenge you to take any heading that includes "mark something" under the current game mechanics. Can't do it without being able to fly up or down.
While I've got nothing against the Z-axis idea in principle, what would it add to a 4X game where you're not individually controlling every ship?

25 Replies 230,733 Views

Yeah. Nah. Get rid of the Ship Designer/3D Maps/Battle Viewer/Anything that lends itself to War (Xterminate) and really focus on improving the Xploit aspect of 4X. I jest, in part, because obviously most GalCiv Fans lurve the Xterminate aspect of 4X and Stardock would lose ther jerbs if they did all of that first sentence. But they still could make more of AI cunning and deviousness and make a game that used more Machiavell
while I do find some annoyance in certain bugs and/or unfixed issues, I am still quite happy with GC3 in general. The tech screen upon leaving ideology shouldn't be a tough fix. Nor should having a global "don't upgrade planetary buildings by default". All have been complaints from the start. I'll still buy a DLC which improves the game. But yeah, I get the complaints. <

Astarogh, I like your idea but I suspect a fair number of replies you get are going to be "Being a Privateer is kind of like stealth, you can go and kill every Drengin ship in existance and no-one know it was you." Let's face it, killing/undermining enemies without being uncovered as The Killer is basically The Reason for having stealth in any game. You don't have stealth in Sims games, after all, do you? In other words, the stealth mechanic is already there. It's just called

So, R-TEAM, as I understand your argument, it is, in a sentence: Any races I do not have an Open Borders agreement with should not be allowed to fly through my territory. Two things I see resulting from GalCiv3 implementing a rule that is "If Race B is in Race A's Territory where Race B and Race A's Relationship Does Not Equal Open Borders, Race B's ships blow up/Race B's move is an Act Of War and now without any hesitation, at Turn End Race A and Race B are At War.":

Two solutions to pirates in a start-with-no-weapons situation: 1: Make them appear only after, say, Turn 30. By which time you should have some sort of weaponry. 2: Early game pirates can only hold your ship hostage - so your colony ship gets freed by paying some bcs. Actually, I'd personally like to see pirates be able to take ships hostage at any point in the game rather than just shoot-to-kill ships.

tid242, I like those ideas except that you'll have to balance out the advantage of increasing the maximum allowable colonies versus giving commonwealths more benefit to their Owner Race - so that one helps one gamestyle, the other a different one. I'd suggest making only one of those two a Tech Tree "journey". Certainly have research to allow you to expand the number of colonies allowable, forfeiting time researching other, less "lovable" tech like how to kill people

Yes, that would be a very useful option. Upvote from me. Especially if combined with a changed Ideology situation matching the changed Age situation. As an example: Yes, you can start in the Age of War, but since you're there, you don't have any way of claiming the Pragmatic "Cannot Declare War on Me for 50 Turns" perk. After all, since you start the game with all those "early game" techs discovered and have the basic Military ones too, you shouldn't be at such a disadvantage if some

Except maybe the flipped planet's morale would be pretty crappy as they got used to their new leader - You - so, once again in the name of immersion, the idea that you have to tell a flipped planet to do der jerbs working on your shipyard makes sense to me. Or maybe SD could change it so it automatically happens 2-3 Turns after the planet flips.
