I realize that dreams just don't suit themselves to XP (and you just put forth a lot of effort to make it for all Vista users :)), but will we ever be able to expect a DeskScapes for XP? I browse and watch some of the great dreams on the site, but I can't actually use any of them. :NOTSURE: And I'm not willing to upgrade to Vista. ;)

I realize this post is sort of old, but I think I found a work-around for changing Z-Order. As long as your widget or group is has movement locked, then this should work well (you could probably even do it with a movable object with a little more script). You have two/three base objects with a transparent 1x1 image (not no image at all, as this seems to make everything act weird on Always on Top), each object with a different Z-Order setting through the DX GUI editor. I actually looked at shell32.dll in Resource Hacker, and the folder icons are listed under "Icons" and they are numbers 16 - 37. Each icon size/format has a different icon number. You probably actually want the icons 23-26, though (they are 32-bit closed folders)

The script actually seems a bit flaky... I get an error message for about every other file I try to add to my list. Maybe it's just the way that I'm implementing the script. And it also doesn't check the format of .EXE files because I tried to import the .EXE I made in assembly (does not have PE headers and such) and it throws an error about reaching the end of the file (it's an extremely simple program). Unless I'm able to solve all these bugs before I get bored of it (I give up easily

Wow... I'm really stupid :P. I didn't realize that the actual icon extraction occurred in its own function. Thanks, SirSmiley. I appreciate your time. I probably would have just thrown away the icon extraction idea. I should be able to incorporate it into my own theme now.

Uh oh... is this going to turn that April Fool's joke into a reality? Well, I do use Linux on rare occasions. I recently took a long time to install and set up a dual-boot system, but now my Linux hard disk is basically just collecting dust... but I voted Linux since I do use it a little bit (though I'm still not able to vote on polls for some reason, which I made a forum post about but didn't get fixed...).

For ObjectDock (OD): If you have downloaded an OD background, open the downloaded file in a ZIP manager application, since most OD backgrounds are in ZIP format. Installing ObjectDock creates a folder called "Stardock" in My Documents. Open that, and inside there should be another folder, "ObjectDock Library," and then "Backgrounds" Just extract the ZIP contents into the "Backgrounds" folder. You should be able to select that background now when you open up the Appearance tab in OD conf

ANY text editor can open ANY file. A "file" is simply a bunch of 1's and 0's, no matter what format it is. So a text editor will look at the arrangement of 1's and 0's and interpret them as characters, which you see on your screen (letters, numbers, symbols, etc.). It's just the concept of a text editor that makes it "corrupt." And anyway, a hacker would attack the files directly by changing those 1's and 0's with their own program, not through Notepad. I am not all that experienced with VBScript, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a DX script that accesses the WScript COM object directly (if "directly" is the right word) instead of through the CreateObject function. When I try to run the script, DesktopX gives me the error, "Object required: wscript". Looking back through older skins in the WindowBlinds gallery, I was looking at the Aero Executive preview picture and I noticed at the bottom that the borders in Microsoft Word 2007 were skinned. My problem still hasn't been fixed yet... I just tried to vote on the most recent poll, "Changing Skins," but it didn't work. Maybe the Total Votes number on the webpage only refreshes on an interval? Still, after voting I don't get a page confirming that my vote was successfully submitted like I would expect from a poll, which makes me wonder if it is working or not. If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

Great jokes! Too bad I didn't check the site yesterday, so I saw the big "April Fools 2008! :D" on all the articles before I read them... :) But really, you can't *port* Object Desktop to Mac and Linux - they're completely different operating systems! Stardock would have to rebuild all their software from the ground up and support each OS separately, as far as I know. That would be quite a burden on Stardock, since they've already got a lot on their hands with a single OS already. Anyways.

Oh, thanks Bebi Bulma. In that case, I have no extra toolbars other than the navigation and bookmarks toolbars for Firefox, which is the browser I always use. My addons are: DOM Inspector, Mouse Gestures, Skype extension, and YoYo Games InstantPlay. (Skype extension installs automatically with Skype and the YoYo Games extension is at yoyogames.com... ;p. Thank you, Neil. The pink borders are no longer a problem. I don't use the task switching feature for the mouse, but will I lose any other features as a result of keeping ipoint.exe from running?
