Are your weapon techs always researched ahead of defense techs?
No. Defense always seems ahead of weapon development for moi. Any one else forsake 2 weapon trees to focus only on one? I've been going all out exclusively with beam weapons and ignoring missiles and kinetic projectiles. Beam weaponry uses less mass... Nope - to be fair tho' - I always deploy Carrier Battle Groups. Two or Three carriers maxed out with assault fighters, support ships with fleet offense/defense/speed/range boosters and tons of separately ship yard produced fighters. There's a lot going on even in slow mode on the battle viewer, yet they all seem to go heck bent at the enemy. luceo non uro
The latest opt in fields formidable carriers and the AI is going heck bent on them. These 'swarm' tactics are brutal and overwhelming - especially on higher levels. The carriers play big in tactical chicanery too - the AI will float one carrier or a smaller carrier task force by itself to draw out your fleets while fleets of over 50 and 60 are just out of sensor range, waiting to swoop in on your critical assets (or deliver a first class bushwacking) while you're drawn out doing your best Adm

I feel your pain. Seriously, pick up some DLCs. They help. Deploying a belt of picket ships with vast sensor power around your periphery tremendously benefits. Always get systems of 2 or more planets fully crunk with 4 economy star bases (ensure to upgrade as new research, manufacturing and economic modules come online). Also, are you deploying military star bases near the enemy's lane of advance? That and adding additional commanders (usually I have 2 com
Any one else notice how the AI has really stepped up it's tactics and strategy with the last 2 opt in/patches? luceo non uro
ForesterSOF makes a case that has been bro't up before. Your ally's planet is conquered by a mutual enemy. You 'liberate' the strategically located planet and your ally's shipyard is still there intact. You're unable to negotiate trading or buying it as current diplomacy options stand. luceo non uro
The AI's tactical chicanery has improved tremendously. Attacking shipyards, starbases and even feints - parading a large slow fleet that's a likely victory to draw your fleet away from protecting assets - so an invasion or raiding force can take advantage of your interceptions... luceo non uro
GCIII Crusade combat tactics and strategy remind me of some recently re read books about WWII. Specificallly, vManstein's Kharkov back hand stroke - assembling units, extracting some from precarious places to fall back, reform and counter strike enemy fleets. Also elements of WWII 's Island hopping in the Pacific come to mind. Anyone else reminded of that? luceo non uro
6 hours in - excellent balancing luceo non uro
Yeah, been stuck in the boondocks a few times, have also been smack dab in the center of plenty bunches also. Personally have zero probs with restarting up (say after 2 hours) to find one that's just right for moi. luceo non uro
Sometimes with a lot of transports, it works to hit your target with 2 or 3 transports at a time and attrit your enemy down a bit. Then hit them with a massive fleet. Had a similar situation that you described, the attrition worked wonders in 3 invasions (same turn) wearing them down. Because when I hit them all at once... got the DEFEAT! blurb luceo non uro

Noticed the same thing when visiting the war an AI declared on me to their core worlds - shooting up star bases, asteroid bases and planetary defense fleets - always seems to be a fleet of colony ships and freighters just hanging out. Sometimes they try to run away... luceo non uro
I have confirmed in 3 games at Godlike and 1 game at Gifted, all taken to 150 turns, from Large to Ludicrous maps, that the AI is not capable of building a farm. I clicked on literally hundreds of AI planets and the number with farms was exactly zero.
Dang - 4 games all the way up to 150 turns each in one (presumably) 8 hour session. Is that even possible? luceo non uro
Dang. Being a proud GC owner for over a decade, I've loved every one of several thousand hours invested in playing II and especially III. With III, the beta opt ins are great and it grieves me to read such negativity. Mainly because the Stardock cats take great pains to ensure GCIII is bleeding incredible. To paraphrase Frogboy, if all certain elements are concerned about are AI farms - then that could also be taken as a sign that Stardock's hard work for crafting a beautiful, b
