I play the regular Crusade expansion, no mods, a few of the DLC's enabled. Just curious, are your weapon techs always researched ahead of defense techs? I am one of those people that usually has my defense techs at least equal to (or sometimes ahead of) my weapons techs.

I experience it all the time with 1723 hours of game play. And no that is not an exaggeration, according to steam I have logged 1723 hours of game time in Gal Civ 3....

So I recently got back into playing GalCiv 3 after taking a break for a few months. Started playing with version 2.71. There are a lot of nice changes and polish, so that's all good. However after playing for a while I discovered that the game still has one thing that is extremely broken, and it has been broken for literally over a year now. Since Crusade began, and it was carried over from the base game before Crusade. Carriers. Carriers do NOT do what the tech says they do.

Yeah it would be nice if the game told you WHO won the game and what kind of victory they achieved. But if it helps you feel a little better I can give you some possible scenarios as to how you lost, based upon the information you have provided. 1) One of your allies achieved and Alliance Victory. You said that there was one faction left that you were not allied with. It is possible that one of your allies had allied with all the other factions plus that ONE guy that was not allied wi

Somewhere in the game settings there is probably something that could help with what you want a little bit. From the main menu, select "Options" (I think). Under one of the tabs on that screen there are a bunch of lists of different zoom level effects. Basically those settings let you determine at what zoom level things disappear from your visible display. I'm sorry I am being pretty vague, but I am just too lazy to bother logging into the game at the moment to provide specific instructions o

Well I was going to point out that fixing things that are clearly broken has nothing to do whether or not myself or anybody else thinks it is "brilliant" to have broken features, but I think tetleytea summed up most of the examples I was going to bring up well enough. There is a big difference between opinion about what is a good "feature", and things that are simply not working right.

[quote who="Stalker0" reply="11" id="3684557"] Quoting jadam, reply 10 I would be happy to buy expansions if the base game is fixed first. Whats the point of expansions if the base game is not on par. This is the fundamental conundrum that the thread talks about. All of the "money"

Oh hey, thanks for trying to champion my "cause". I wouldn't worry about it too much. The issue is already kind of "resolved" to me; as I said I won't be purchasing Stardock products until they are at cheap bargain basement prices on Steam from now on. Their games are enjoyable, but the quality is not worth a premium price anymore. Just my opinion. It really doesn't matter to me if anybody from the company responds. Thanks for trying to fight the good fight though, thum

Wow, pretty old necro on this one. But yeah builder680, starbase spam is pretty limited now by some new game mechanics in Crusade. You need administration points to build colony modules, constructor modules, and survey modules. There are various ways to gain administration points, but they are not acquired so easily that you can really afford to plant them all around your colonies. As a matter of fact, I have not built a single Economic starbase since Crusade started. Also starbases are upgra

What is the deal with carriers? The first carrier module we get says it provides two assault fighters. It does not. It gives two guardian drones. That means a module that you think provides some offensive firepower actually effectively gives you absolutely nothing because the guardians just hang out away from the fighting unless something actually makes it to the support carrier in the back. So what does the next thing in the tech tree give? It gives you a choice between selecting interceptor

Population seems a little undervalued to me as well. I thought something like square root of population x2 might be a little better. So you would have 4 pop = 4 raw production, 9 pop = 6 raw production, 16 pop = 8 raw production, 25 pop = 10 raw production, so on and so forth. As it is currently, your population is trivial in contributing to production compared to asteroids, which just seems a little off to me. It won't bother me if they just keep the system the way it is now, but I think my

Yeah for me it is usually Vicky Eiggen 84703. Ok that is an exaggeration. But I often end up with about 25%+ of my citizens with the same base name. I always go in and rename them to make them different.

I always shut off the technology victory option off, because it is too easy and cheesy to win that way in my experience. Things may have changed since Crusade came out, it might be more challenging to win by technology victory now. I doubt it though.

Did you also fix those planetary tile bonuses that don't do anything? Like the "Caverns" tile which gives +3 to Resistance? No structures receive any bonus from Resistance; my guess is that is supposed to be +3 to ship construction. There are several others that similarly don't provide bonuses to on-tile or adjacent structures, or structures that don't get any level ups from things that are supposed to provide bonuses to them. This is particularly bad with social construction, all constructio

Yep your use of citizens has to be adapted to the type of maps you like to play on. Like me personally I never assign citizens to planets anymore, I just store them up until I unlock Leadership. I will use a few also as admins and spies. Yes that slows me down a bit at the start, but the type of maps I play on I am usually guaranteed to have 10+ planets around turn 100. That is the nice thing about Crusade, you can be flexible with how you use citizens to suit your needs.

Please turn off that change you made where it keeps repeating projects automatically. At the very LEAST don't make the "Station Garrison" project one that repeats automatically. I try to keep a pool of legions available, so I can station garrisons in "hot spots" as needed. But thanks to this incredibly horrible and annoying change, I discovered that ALL of my legion pool got sucked up because ONE PLANET kept auto-building garrisons. It takes a LONG TIME to build up a pool of available legions

Found an annoying bug. Planetary tile with the bonus on it of "Wild Grain". It says it give +3 to Food (for on tile) and +1 to Population (for adjacent). Put a food producing building on the tile such as Kimberly's Refuge does not produce any bonus food, since the "+3 to Food" is flagged wrong I assume. Kind of makes the "Wild Grain" tile worth crap. Actually worth less than crap, since crap is a great fertilizer and would result in extra food production, and the current tile does not do anyt

I get some complete lock ups occasionally, at pretty much random times. But I believe that is a problem with my system more than anything to do with GalCiv, because it also happens sometimes when I play Endless Space 2. I play on ludicrous, 15 AI gifted; and the game runs completely smooth and stable. The turn times can take almost a full minute to complete though (around turn 340 I think). My rig is AMD 9590, 4.1 ghz, 8 core with 16 gb ram. Although my current game was started during C

When you have a ship or fleet selected, I believe there is a button in the controls panel for that ship/fleet (bottom left corner of screen) that says "assign commander". I think. Don't quote me on that, I have never actually used a commander.

I play GalCiv more than other 4x games (over 1200 hours with GalCiv 3 so far) for all of the customization in creating races/civs and designing your own ships, and the feeling of free exploration of a vast galaxy. I enjoy Endless Space 2 also, but it just feels much more limited than GalCiv. Which reminds me... Hey Stardock quit shrinking the damn galaxy sizes, I like my galaxy feeling almost overwhelmingly vast !!! The new ludicrous size is good, now keep your hands off of it p

The 2nd upgrade that increases starbase effect range does nothing. The first upgrade increases starbase range by 2 like it says it is supposed to do. The second upgrade however does not extend the starbase range another 2 hexes.

Yep I always take the max negatives in food and growth when making a custom synthetic race. Some people might think of it as a "cheat" of sorts, but I think it actually works out fine. It seems to me an artificial life form should be able to have many more advantages over much more fragile squishy biological life forms, for the trade off that the synthetics have to divert their production abilities into growing their population. I think this actually works out fine in the co
