I had a similar problem - saving and loading started to take 5 mins plus instead of the 15 secs it had been taking. Turned out my game was corrupt. If I load an earlier game it loads fine and saves fine; any save game from the current game takes ages to load and save. This may not be your problem, but I just abandoned current game, started again, and all is well

I'm not bothered about multi-player, but will we still be able use the multiverse? I used to enjoy competing that way, and it was a unique approach in my experience. Really looking forward to playing GalCiv again after a few years of sticking to Civ IV/V. Cheers!

Cloud computing is a marketing term, and as such it means whatever the vendors want it to. Most people use it to mean that you are using applications and data on the Internet rather than on your PC or local server. SalesForce.com and Google Docs are good examples. Othe

Friday 24th, 9 days later, MV still down... aaagh! Someone mentioned Civ4 - is that a good alternative until this gets fixed? Cheers

I'm amazed that some of you have so much choice... generally i find I'm building as many of the best ships I can at any given time.. weapon type and defense type may chnage according to enemy's ships, and hull size gradually gets bigger as the game progresses - but I never have enough spare capacity to finesse things like this. Maybe it is a limitation of my ability - I play at Crippling and I don't find winning easy! Re smaller ships, i find them useful to leave behind on pla

I can see I'm going to have to try zooming out - I've never used that view at all in the 18 months I've been playing. Admittedly, I rarely go above medium sized galaxies, as there gets to be just too much stuff for me to manage.. but from the posts above, it may be that there are some real benefits in looking at 2d icons instead. Sometimes. (OFF TOPIC: By the way, why do some people's metaverse icons appear beneath their posts, and others don't?) Cheers

Hello there... In a couple of recent games, (Maso, medium, sparse, Terrans) the Altarians have been doing very well on econ etc, but they have built no military ships at all. Both times they got wiped out of course (but surprisingly late in the game - after a couple of years). This isn't a problem, but I'm just curious. Is this because of some new character trait that they have, or what? Cheers

One change to econ that has a big impact on the way I play is the fact that the econ bonuses have been dropped from the higher levels of government. Now you just get diplo and influence bonuses (I think - I don't go for advanced govt any more). Of course I may have got this wrong; I'm basing this on the info you can see in the tech research window. Cheers

When you say you are nowhere near the others on research, is it actually affecting the game outcome? Are you relying on the graph to tell you that you are behind on research? I ask because I have come to trust the graphs less and less. For example I just completed a game where the Torians had 3x my econ, mil and research but when I came to attack them they didn't seem to have that much of anything... I think the graphs can be misleading. Cheers

Hello there... I usually play with tech trading off, for the same reason as Swicord (ie so the other races don't all trade up rapidly) but also because I didn't paricularly enjoy the trading bit. Having said that if you are Terran or have major diplo it can help a lot. Also agree with last post re the biggest drawback to not tech trading is not being able to form alliances. Worth pointing out that one of the big improvements in TA is that when you are trading you c

Hello there... 1) There is a good guide ( by Draginol?) online here somewhere that gives you good tips for the first few moves - good place to start 2) Depends on your cash situation. If you have some spare, DA and TA are even better 3) Not sure what you mean - you choose which retch to research in the tech screen, and you can fliop from 1 branch to anotyer at any time Have fun! Cheers

Hello there... This is a feature that exists in DA too. If you use Ctrl-N to generate a new map, you can find that one or even all of the AI races are effectively bound and gagged. It doesn't seem to take many presses of Ctrl-N either - I'm sure it has happened to me after just 2 or 3. So now, if ever I get dealt a starting position that I just don't want to live with, I go to 'new game' rather than Ctrl-N. Only way to be sure. Cheers

Hello there... >>If you want a war so bad why not just start it yourself? Because often if you start a war, the AI that you attack has allies that will then declare war on you. What would have been an easy victory becomes a real problem. Re goading someone into a war, building military starbases near their valuable planets seems to help. Also these act as powerful magnets when they do decalre war - they often seem hell bent on destroying those starbases at the expense of

>> 2 factories (which can be paved over later with Stock Markets... they're only to speed up building the other buildings) I feel like an idiot. I didn't know this - I thought factory output was only used to create ships - I had no idea that it had an impact on the rate of creation of buildings! At last I understand why some of my planets are inexplicably slooo-o-oow at producing buildings. Cheers
