A %bonus on food production seems useful to me, if it is on planet with a max pop six billion. 1 farm on that helps a lot.

It helps in the early game to take the tax slider down until you have 100% approval, as you get double pop growth. This means that your econ is in the red but it will pay dividends. You have to keep twitching the tax slider a bit lower each turn to keep pop growth at 100%. When I hit tax of 0% then I shift it up as high as necessary. By this stage your early colonies should have a significant boost. Your econ will look awful compared to thers in thetimeline, but as soon as you put the t
Chances are high that you'll scratch your head quite a bit at first - I remember being absolutely baffled as to why the 'turn' button is sometimes green and sometimes not (I still don't know, but it doesn't matter ). Don't worry about this - it is just a sign that the game is not a straightforward hack and slash. It DOES take some effort to master - and this is what makes it so enjoyable, so replayable, so... addictive. A bit like music. You hear a record, you like it straig
Hello there... If you are attracted to GalCiv because of the total freedom of gameplay, ignore the campaigns & get straight intoi sandbox (or metaverse). Write your own story! Cheers
The big problem with advice is that enjoying games is so subjective and personal. For example, Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) got lots of great reviews , and people here still mention it... but I hated it! Why? No idea, I just did. I actually gave up on it. It isn't like a hardware component that you can benchmark; a game is an experience and so is much more complex. No matter how much advice you seek, you may end up getting something that you don't like. Unless you ge
When you say you 'breeze through the other victory conditions' do you mean that you can actually win easily, but not a conquest victory? If so, then you may well have eg high diplo which is helping to stop them from attacking you while you build to eg an influence victory. In that sort of scenario you could use your high diplo to persuade one AI to attack another, thus reducing their military might, then you can mop up... But hang on, you said you play the Yor? Do you have many
OldFartAtPlay: Thanks for an excellent post that made me laugh out loud!
>>WIllythemailboy has it correct. Exactly - that's why 'the game cries' - it is a crying shame to waste the bonus!
I've had no issues with PayPal either... the only thing I'd say is that there is quite a bit of phishing for PayPal accounts about.
Hello there.. Brilliant, ta v much, got it by email Cheers
Getting a good deal from trading is also complicated by the fact that some races value some techs higher than others - eg something innocuous-seeming like Mining can be guarded jealously by one race... or so it seems to me! Unless you have high diplo it may be easier just to switch it off
Hello there... I've been playing GC2 for about a year now & I finally decided to have a go at metaverse... it asked for a serial number. I bought GC2 online and downloaded it - and I don't remember any serial number. Where do I find it? I did email support but I guess everyone is busy with TA. Ta v much!
Hello there... I enjoy playing the Korath but I take a different approach. I use spore ships as early and as often as possible. You might like to try this: Look around for enemy planets that don't have much in the way of defences. Concentrate on sporing those. Even if you lose the planets once spored, you have still wiped out their population. Spore enough of their planets and their econ will start to fail as they aren't getting enough tax revenue. Don't worry about de
Also local focus on a planet can be handy eg if you want to build a ship more quickly on a planet that normally focusses on research, but you don't want to buy the ship. Change focus for that planet to production until the ship is built, then change focus back again - leaving settings for other planets and the sliders unchanged. So as well as being useful in smaller galaxies, it is useful for specifc tactical requirements as they arise. Cheers
>>Galactic Civilization II is a game, I can see myself playing tweny years from now, unless they come out with galactic civ III. Yes this is what makes the game special - the replayability. Similar in a way to a good board game like chess or scrabble,in that every game is different and it is satisfying every time. Quite an achievement!
Thanks Iztok, understood
Hello there... My head spins. Interesting stuff. But this is my experience: I never use defenses of any kind; I prefer to use the space for weapons and engines. I usually just research one type of weapon (missiles). I tend to play on medium (sometimes large), at crippling. What usually seems to happen to me is that if I attack first, and my total fleet strike power is as great as theirs (or bigger), I win. If they attack first, and their strike power is as great as mine (or
I had a go at all factories.... and I found that if I had 100% on manufacturing slider, 0% on research slider, and put focus on research - I got hardly any research! FAR fewer research icons than shield icons. Did I miss something? (Mind you, I could crank out ships really fast!) Cheers
Welcome! I think the little dialogue box that pops up when you quit the game says it all. The words are something like 'Surely a couple more turns wouldn't hurt?' the first time I saw that, I thought what an odd little dialogue box it was. Now every time I see it I smile, because I know how tempting it is to always just have 'a couple more turns'. I've been playing for nearly a year now, and it is still as fresh, challenging and enjoyable as those first games. <br/
I guess we'll get another 11 pages of updates now....
Thanks kryo, great suggestion. Works a treat. (It must be something on my PC that is disabling forum search for me.)
Hello there... I've been playing Korath for the last few games, on medium size and crippling difficulty. I love the spore ships, but I get an econ crash every game. I start the spore rollout, take a few planets, and bang! My econ goes down the tube. I end up cutting production and creating loads of colony ships (I haven't researched inavasion so I don't have troops) and ferry pop from existing worlds to try to get balanced again. I'm thinking I need to take troop ships with my
Hello there... I can't search the forum. I key in a word, click search, and... nothing Cheers
Have you read the Beginners Strategy Guide, posted on this site? Good place to start. https://forums.galciv2.com/?aid=104908
And don't forget, if you get into a really tight spot financially, you can always cut the production slider down from 100%. I sometimes do this eg to enable me to keep taxes low because I want the 100% pop growth bonus. Also, what are you spending your race attributes on? I tend to put plenty of points into he economy, since everything else flows from a good econ.
