Thanks! That appears to have solved it. Although with the high settings I don't really notice any difference in the look of the game.
I've got the same problem. New high end PC running Windows 10 (with an NVidia 1070 graphics card) every time I set the graphics options and restart they revert back to "low". What's the point of building a killer computer if the game won't utilize it?
If you cant build a template, what is the purpose of saving it?
I think a "template" is intended to be a cosmetic design (no real ship parts), which is supposed to be used to design (more than one) real ship design. This is probably obvious to those who designed the game or have been designing ships for the past ten years, but for the new player it isn't clear.
Well, the manual doesn't help for this: Save your Design When you are satisfied with your ship design, save it for future use. Make a name for the design template, along with a brief description so that you will know what the function of this ship will be. You can modify your designs anytime you choose. This makes no clarification of what the difference between saving as a template and just plain saving is.
I would think it would depend on whether the game internals are referring to the stars created for that game by a reference ID or by the star name. If by a reference ID then the other player could have completely different names and the code might be perfectly happy!
No kidding, problems like this can quickly make the fun evaporate. From your post I'm assuming you are using extra parts to alter the appearance as well as just adding functional parts. So far my custom race (which I've edited and tweaked a few times) hasn't given me a problem with disappearing ship designs... well... I should say within a single game they don't seem to disappear. I've made ships in one game and it seems like only "some" show up in th
Mods don't work in multiplayer, this is something that is currently hard-coded into the game and is unlikely to change in the near future... [e digicons][/e]
Well, some modifications do work in multiplayer as long as you are willing to edit the original files (make a backup copy of the original first of course!). But this replacement star name file seems to crash multiplayer.
Has anyone managed to get this to work successfully in multiplayer?
Are you playing with a custom race? (Or which race are you playing with?) How deep into the tech tree are you? So far my designs seem to show up and I can built them, perhaps this bug is specific to a certain race and certain parts?
The race name would be most helpful, I'd rather not memorize images and as myles pointed out multiple races using the same image can be very confusing.
I've discovered that you can modify the base game (which I hate doing) and it works for multiplayer. The other players in your game also get the changes you have made.
My custom race works just fine in multiplayer.
Seriously??? Mods are disabled for multiplayer? This is a critical "flaw" in GalCiv3. I only play multiplayer (and with a trusted friend). I spent this morning creating a mod only to discover that the game shows multiplayer disabled with mods enabled! I understand that some players may be concerned about "cheating" (how is it cheating if both players are playing with the same rules?) but all you need to do is display a mess
Yes, I only play multi-player. Although, even if I were to play single player I would still like to have some organizational options in the ship UI. Perhaps something like "Show only ships with hull size medium" or sort alphabetically by name. I can't figure out how it is sorting them now other than that often the most recent built ship is near the top of the list (not at the top of the list just near). Primary concerns: Ship UI
One of the major problems I'm seeing in v1.5 (and probably all previous versions) is that ship designs that other players have made are displayed. I consider it a major flaw to be able to see the ship designs of other players. Not to mention the fact that many players might want to keep their ship designs secret, but it also makes a mess of the user interface. When you go to build or design a ship it is very annoying to have to scroll through an apparently completely u
Thanks for the responses guys! That's very helpful to know.
I believe I read (official source?) that beam weapons have 100% accuracy. So if you research "Targeting Specialization" which gives you +10% accuracy on all weapons, does that mean that it gives no bonus to beam weapons (which already never miss)? I'm suspecting that beam weapons are not 100% accurate. According to the Wiki the Thalan tech tree gives "Beam Shifting" allowing a specialization of "Ship Beam Accuracy 0.1" which I assume increases the accu
The pirates may be a lot different now than they were in May (I only started playing a month ago). I really like the pirates and play with them on "common". The pirates give you motivation to build some initial military. Yes, it would be nice to add in some other things you could do (bribe them to not attack you for X number of turns, hire them to harass other races, etc). Overall they are a great feature and if you don't like them you can always
It has a *little* to do with game design. They chose to depend on Steam servers / GOG servers, rather than choosing a server ecosystem that would be cross-compatible. They also neglected to include a direct IP option. There are undoubtedly reasons for these choices - perhaps even good ones - but it's not as if when designing the game, they didn't have the option to include this stuff. They also don't make this re
Back in the old days game designers allowed you to enter the IP address of the host of the game (admittedly this meant a lot of fussing with firewall settings). The only reason I bought GalCiv III is to play multiplayer! Incompatible networks is a major flaw. Long, long ago I bought GalCiv II and loved it but never played it because it lacked multiplayer. There really should be some option for direct connection if
