if you purchase/exchange technologies with other factions in midgame (f.i. extra hull maximization/capacity/cheaper parts) this has an effect on your already build ships as well (all suddenly have extra hull points left??, and I'm sure they are not all damaged for the exact same amount!)
I think this is working as intended. you got a technology that boosts the max HP of your ships, but your ships don't immediately get that hp. they have to "heal" it up. (b
Well yes because to be honest I rarely pick them, as some of the others seem more immediately useful early on and it's been that way since they where new to me so I was a new player.
So by "yes", you mean "no, new players will not make that choice". I just played a game (I won) where I was only able to colonize two planets. I think I ended up picking 3 ideologies in the entire game. [quot

I'm more looking at it from the perspective of someone playing the game for the first time. What choices are fun? What makes sense? Ideology and Pirates are both really interesting game mechanics that can (and sometimes do) add spice to the flow of the game. But if pirates are just annoying for 50 turns and then irrelevant (or annoying throughout the whole game) then they're not working. Telling people to "turn them off" is not really addressing the problem. What other feature
There should be no reason that a game ready for gold release still crashes multiple times with in 100 turns in a multiplayer game.
I hate to say it, but the game is going to get hammered for this if it's in the release (it's probably too late to fix it as reviewers are likely already playing on the beta -- gotta get the game reviews out on launch day).
Make your first Ideology pick the building that gives you a point per turn. Each Ideology has this building in their respective first tier.
This is good advice, I played a map where I was only able to colonize two planets! Which made moving down the ideology tree somewhat difficult. But that mechanism seems broken to me. If there's one obvious first choice then it's not really a choice, is it? And if a ne
Is anyone still seeing this issue since the latest opt-In patch?
I just got this again, this afternoon. I am loading up a game I started on Saturday, if that matters.

I definitely don't want my ships to auto-move after the turn starts. If an enemy fleet shows up in front of my constructor, for example, the last thing I want it to do is use all its moves plunging headlong towards its doom. I haven't really given much thought to the order of priority before I can click the "Turn" button, so I guess that means it's been fine for me. I feel like Research should always be the first thing.

This has been happening to me repeatedly today. I wasn't playing much before the last two patches so I can't say if it started before that. Click on View Battle Screen flickers/Graphics card reset Black screen for GC3, no UI, and the game is unresponsive. Task manager -> Kill The first time it happened I got a "graphics card reset" message from Windows. Since then it hasn't displayed the message. I have no tried resta
We tablet users often have no mouse, which means no third mouse button or mouse wheel. I've noticed some basic pinch-zoom functionality, but not being able to rotate the ships without hooking up a mouse is a super big pain.
Just curious, what settings are you playing on and how are you finding the experience? I'd love to play on my Surface Pro, but I am skeptical it can handle the game.

Hi, this should either be simple to fix or impossible to replicate. I just loaded up my game where I am at war with two factions. Checking the diplomacy screen I see that I am getting a relations boost because it says "Outside of Traveling Range". Which is not true (at this point) for either faction. After I move to the next turn the "outside of traveling range" goes away. But this suggests an exploit that could be used against the AI.

Maybe I missed a dev announcement (or something in the streams) but isn't the video of the battle essentially just a static visual representation of the combat calculator results. That is, the results of the battle have already been calculated. The combat calculator (not the video) is the thing that takes into account the different range and speeds of ships and whatnot. So when you're watching your ships zoom in to fight an enemy that they should be keeping at a distance, that

Brad, I don't think you should take whatever criticism you get about the AI as a knock on what you're doing. I think most of us recognize the huge challenge you're taking on. I think we'd also acknowledge the strides the AI has taken to becoming a more viable opponent. And yes, you could just whip up a cheaty AI and have it challenge players with sheer numbers. That would be easier (though probably not satisfying for most of us here, which you know). You're
First off the game is still in beta, late beta, but still beta. Does the game have it's faults, yes, is the game fun, yes, will the game be ready for release? I have no doubt it will be a very good game on release, and most of the larger issues still lingering will be squished.
You weren't around for Elemental were you? Same things were being said in the forums for that beta too. The likelihood of GC3 being releas

the money you (and I) spent is gone. I would guess the 50% off thing is them trying to get more people into the beta because many early adopters have stopped playing. The game will be whatever it is when they release it. Maybe they'll do the same routine as they went through with Elemental. And in a couple years they'll release something resembling the game they (and we) wanted. Or maybe a miracle will happen and they will go gold with a complete game with a compelling

I feel like ID probably bought the 800W PSU, so it's all moot now. But the point being that the only reason to do that is if he genuinely anticipates needing 800W. Why not buy a bigger PSU than you need, you know, just in case? 1. It costs more. 2. It wastes energy. But doesn't a higher wattage PSU mean better quality? No. But doesn't a higher wattage PSU mean it will last longer? No. But doesn't a higher wattage PSU mea
I didn't miss a thing. You said that ID could squeak by with a 400 watter... and that is neither wise or acceptable. As for the 450/500w PSU, a paltry 50w isn't much of a leap, and an extra 100w is neither here nor there should ID want to upgrade his CPU and other components later... I mean, why end up having buy a 2nd PSU when getting the right one first up saves the hassle and expense.
The trend fo

Why not have ships and planets turn neutral if you get too indebted. The consequence of running too high deficits for too long is that (some of) your colonies rebel and (some of) your ships go pirate. It shouldn't be just "going into the red", the effect should scale based on GDP (or the ingame equivalent).

Edladner: If you have fought through the defending fleet and now have supremacy of the skies, the defenders could not last overly long. Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc. show that superior force of arms and tactical position is inadequate to predict the length or success of a military mission. Regardless, it's a game with aliens about space warfare. What makes sense is kinda secondary. I'm thinking about what makes for interesting strategic and tactical

Developed planets with large populations should not flip in a single turn. Let ground wars play out like ground wars. Invasion and conquer should be a gradual process. You bring your space marines (or whatever) to the planet and they invade. Depending on the size of the population and the number of troops present, a state of war might last for a few turns or dozens. Or it might stalemate altogether, with neither side able to gain advantage. You need to get more troops to tip the odds.

I agree that there should be a militaristic way to at least nag at enemy colonies. But it should probably be a type of ship component. There could be any number of these. - a kinetic weapon: fires heavy projectiles at ground installations, destroying facilities - a nuclear weapon: "upgrade"? to the kinetic weapon, does more damage, kills population but it makes the tiles uninhabitable - a poison weapon: poisons the atmosphere which reduces population -
