Nothing wrong with buying a game because you can get it cheap (or a great deal aka Elite Founders Edition) in the beta and not playing it until the release. I've done that with this game. I've played a few rounds, even mentioned an issue or two. But overall, I really haven't played the game. So no worries.
Ryat
True. That would be a nice option. Maybe something coming with the governors and the AI.

Looked like all/much of the effort was then directed to the planet's assigned shipyard. Do you have the planet assigned to support a shipyard? Even one really far away? This may not actually "idle" the planet, but I don't have to deal with building something I don't want. Of course, auto-upgrades won't get built without sliding back to l

Its still in early beta (or late alpha, depending on the definition you use) but overall its looking very good. Some features are still out and will be introduced over time and the official release is hopefully spring of 2015.

In my last game one of my planets popped out a second shipyard even though I didn't want it. To my surprise I could not find a way to scuttle/remove the shipyard. I had to anchor it somewhere, connect it, and shut it down as it would not be useful to me. Is there a way to scuttle a shipyard that I haven't seen? Or are you devs plan on putting one in for such mistakes?
Stardock is one of the leaders in multicore optimization. They've been doing it since GalCiv II. You have no worries here.
And remember Sins of a Solar Empire was created by Ironclad with Stardock as a publisher. Hence why it is single core.
Emperor Ryat stood upon the charred ground of Drengi with a satisfied feeling in his heart. Or rather the massive battle bot he teleoperated from Earth through the massive networks of the human empire stood upon the charred ground. It didn't matter in the end. He had the bot built (and upgraded) from the beginning for exactly this moment and it/he was the first to attack Drengi. He had aimed for the very capital of the planet and empire and crushed the Emperor'
Major stock races will yes be held at 16 but minor races will be another story. Also there are already plans for user content of major races to be easily uploaded/downloaded for ease of spread. Stardock may only give us 16, but the world will give us thousands.

I think that was one of the sellings points was multi core use. IIRC they used multi core in GC 2 as well.

Emperor Ryat looked over the data as it poured through the networks of his empire. The Drengin had become active though currently they were just snapping up all the small empty worlds that surrounded his bigger ones. Already, troop transports were on their way over to secure them back and a new ship type was being built. This was a laser armed ship as the Drengin have not shown a single shielded vessel as of yet. His anticipation filled him as the Drengin fell into hi
Year 146 Armed scouts on the borders had engaged the enemy. Due to light weapons they were lost but not before revealing the weapons of the enemy. They too had only the most basic of weapons. Time to ramp up weapon research and hull size.
Drengin home world is on the other side of a large galaxy. Don't have the range for it. Only found it due to a survey ship going through a wormhole. That, and this is more RP not bum rush tactics 101.
