Xeno Ethics has nothing to do with it. For example, in my last game, the Drath had moved from Good to Neutral. Eventually, they turned Evil. However, they never researched Xeno Ethics. In fact, nobody had it at that point of the game.
I once had a game where the Drengin (I think it was the Drengin) moved from Evil to Good... to Evil once more.
That's a problem with their AI, and is only really noticeable on maps with lots of habitable planets. This is also the case with the Iconians, because they use the same AI.
I'm aware that the Iconians can be a pain as well. Possibly worse because they can colonize both aquatic and toxic worlds from the get go. The other civilizations only get the ability to colonize 1 type of extreme world, not 2. As for modd

Question. Can a civilization change its ideology? For instance, could the Drengin discard its ideology of excessive cruelty, slavery, consumption of intelligent species? Could they adopt a more benevolent ideology? Back in GalCiv 2 Twilight, a random event might change the Drengin from Evil to Good alignment, and I find it weird that their tech tree remained largely the same (they still had access to slave factories, pain appliers, death furnaces, etc). Basically, I'm wondering

I do that too lately. I try to hold off researching it until after the colony race (often some time after that). I like getting worlds that give ship quality bonuses (they often become my primary factory worlds). The primary reason I research "Xeno Ethics" is to get the good techs (which usually give bonuses to defense and such).
I have no sympathy for the Torians. For a peace loving race they are always too expansionistic and warlike.
What I don't like about them is that they seem to colonize worlds but then do nothing with them. They don't even put a starport on them. It greatly annoys me because I can keep up with them and sometimes they nab planets I would have put to good use. This is on games where there are a lot of worlds to

Starbases were essentially an after thought in the GalCiv 2. They weren't designed well. They didn't get improvement when ships got more powerful. The AIs weren't great at using them. Since this is going to be a new game, I hope things will turn out better. Considering that they are working with new code, its possible that they will work, or not be included at all.

I'm trying to consider how you might keep data files through versions. Ship designs are kept in separate files (in GalCiv 2 that is), so they can be pre-loaded whenever you make new games. Ship templates would have the greatest odds of surviving, as they do not depend on functional part to be loaded (functional parts might be removed or restricted to specific civilizations later as the game develops). You might also want to keep screen shots so you could rebuild ships from refe

I would think that you should abandon games from previous versions of the beta. Much can change between versions. You shouldn't be testing if the saves work between the different versions of alphas and betas, you should be testing if saves work with the same version of the game. Hopefully the saves work well once the game is released. Also, if you are playing saves from previous versions, are you really giving the feedback that the devs need? Tester - "This breaks wh

I mildly dislike the idea of an expanding galaxy. I like having clear victory conditions, or ways to end things quickly. I don't want the game to suddenly deprive me of a victory when I was playing a quick game. However, some times I don't want things to end too soon. Influence victory is the one I most likely not want as it is the one I'm most likely to achieve without trying. It is easy for me to get considerable influence. You can avoid cultural victory by declaring

Larger maps? Probably. They are going 64 bit for a reason (and not anything less). It was a struggle to find the processing power and memory to make larger maps possible in the Twilight expansion (because it was a 32 bit game). Previously, they were restricted to smaller maps because of memory limitations and the like. If they tried to use more, things like the game crashing or windows start writing to a page file on the hard drive (much slower than RAM) would happen. None of them were helpfu

I very much liked buying/stealing unique techs from other civilizations. The Arcean navigation techs are a favorite of mine. I like getting technologies to make my civilization better than it would otherwise normally be. Unfortunately, the civilizations don't always research the techs I want. I would very much like to be able to ask a civilization to research certain techs so I might trade them for them. I would also like to be able to steal/buy what ever qualities that allow a

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I can't really say that I would be missing out on much if I were to use Pro instead. I'm not really sure that I would even be missing much if I were to go Premium, or even a Home version instead (I should really stop to figure out what I can do with Ultimate). I used XP mode for a bit, but its becoming less relevant as time goes along (plus I'm looking into other virtual machine programs now, many of which might be better than XP Mode and Windows Virt

Look, pal. You are a pirate. You are one because you are pirating games and programs. You use more copies than you are legally allowed to do so. Denying that does not make that fact go away. You are what you do, not what you claim you are. I prefer it if you stopped talking. I'm in the DRM free boat, and I think you are making the boat sink. Your comments are not helping. Laws and rules in our society are there to prevent people from doing bad things, or make sure that good thi

Well the random map generator was supposed to generate random yet equal maps. For instance, if you didn't have close access to many planets, you might instead get many nearby galactic resources. If you were for instance, inconvenienced by having many civilizations nearby, then they was likely something that would balance things out for you. I should point out that if you were not happy with random maps, you could always use a pre-designed map, either made by the devs or made by
