Its nice to see you are still trying to get GalCiv 2 to compile on something more modern. I recall you considered it a pain to have to use a Windows XP emulation to compile the game. It would be nice if you got things compiling and we got new updates for it. That said, how are you trying to go about making it compile? Are you trying to modify the code so it compiles on a modern compiler? Have you tried to modify the compiler instructions so the compiler tries to compile the code as

Yeah. You should be careful what you put on your computer. The general rule of thumb is, no amount of internet security will protect you if you make a habit of downloading programs from porn sites. A lot of this nasty stuff have many different ways of getting bundled with free software, even on websites that were once reputable (some websites that offer a lot of free software now bundle a whole bunch of unwanted stuff with stuff people want now). Other helpful advice is: You should

Only 1 day to ask questions? I was expecting more time. Oh well, the OP does mention that this will hopefully be the first of many Q&A sessions so we will hopefully get another chance to ask questions.

Much of the data in GalCiv 2 had a lot of stuff hard coded. That meant that the devs couldn't easily change variables, or allow us to mod the same stuff. The Starport is one of those things. There is no ability that allows a planet improvement to unlock ship building. The game quite literally searches for a planet improvement whose internal name (the name you see and the name the game uses to track stuff can be different) is called "BasicStarport" and if the planet doesn't have one th

*Scratches head Umm... I believe it is just the one human, not a civilization of humans who came to the Galactic Civilizations dimension. From the stuff I've read, there was never any hint that there was anyone else who came with him. For all we know, his civilization might be extinct, or he has traveled so far from it (through the dimensions) that he probably wouldn't be able to return even if he wanted to (nor would anyone be able to find him). I'm not sure

Something that annoyed me around the time I started playing GalCiv 2 was that I couldn't trade planets in such a way to minimize conflict. When your influence is pushing strongly against another civilization's influence, that adds - to your relations with that civilization. Trading planets to minimize that could solve that problem. Likewise, early versions of the game had AIs declare war on you if you had ships in their area of influence for short periods of time. They assumed you wer

Go read the stuff in the GalCiv 3 databanks. It should be more accurate than anything I have to say on this topic. It would be near the top of the GalCiv 3 page. Here if you can't find it: [link="https://www.galciv3.com/databanks"]https://www.galciv3.com/databanks[/link] The timeline has a good chunk of the information I already posted about: [link="https://www.galciv3.com/databanks/timeline"]https://www.galciv3.com/databanks/timeline[/link]

I mentioned this many times. Others have as well. I'm a bit worried that people are not bothering to read these things. (Sigh) It goes something like this (I'm working from memory by the way): Long ago, the Dark Mithrilar arrived in the galaxy. That person was a human (not a normal human) and arrived through unexpected means. According to what I've read, he is a human from another dimension where the humans there are advanced enough in technology that they are able

I found the pod cast difficult to understand at times. It almost seemed like the host was asking the guest about morale in GalCiv 2, but then the guest answered with how things will be in GalCiv 3. Similar stuff with other questions. At least, I assume one was talking GalCiv 3 otherwise the guest is out to lunch as to how GalCiv 2 plays. Probably confused the host in the process. The guest practically needed a GalCiv 2 veteran to keep his facts strait. I'm not exactly motivated at this ti

Well, you can go edit the original post. When you do so, you should be able to reassign the category (I never had to do so, so I'm not really sure if it works). It should show up as a drop down menu. You should be able to reassign this thread from the "GalCiv III Founders" folder to the general "Galactic Civilizations III Forums" folder. Taking a look at it right now, I don't see an off-topic folder to use. The selection seems to be a bit limited right now. If this was the

I sense a trend here. It involves adding a line saying something like "Even if you don't have a good reason to post a reply, please post a reply anyways." . Anyways, I'm in the group that is wondering why the need for this thread, and wondering why this thread is in the Galactic Civilizations III Forum (GalCiv III Founders to be specific) instead of somewhere more off topic.

Well, if you want my answer, then might I suggest the Transhumans from the Eclipse Phase tabletop RPG? They are not technically aliens per se, but can serve more of an example of what an alien civilization might look like if they allowed technology to go a certain direction. Nearly every transhuman has been downloaded to a new body (either organic or synthetic) or currently resides in emergency data archives awaiting reactivation. Most bodies (or morphs as they call them) have some level of a

Well, maybe the confusion could be reduced by when choosing the difficulty, it showed the AI rating and bonuses. You know, show that the AI was at 70% full power, and 50% normal abilities, while very hard difficulties might show AI 100% and abilities at 120%. Heck, if we are talking this far then why allow a player to adjust both variables independently. Lets say let the player do something like set an AI to 50% and bonuses to 400%.

I have a few ideas myself: 2b) Something that annoyed me in GalCiv 2 was, you could not add items to the planet governor que if you haven't researched it yet (or bought the techs). For example, you often had to research farm techs before you could add farms to the que. Likewise, I always considered the Counter Espionage Center very important, but it was expensive to research, so it might be a while before I got around to researching it. 2c) Allow the planet governor

Rotating the camera is the only way to properly perceive the depth, and I accept that when you have a galaxy full of detailed objects, you'd probably need a monstrously powerful computer... However, the galaxy is just not a table-top and with the introduction of hexes it becomes even easier to make a wall of

According to this game's lore, nearby mass slows down hyperdrives. In this context, mass is the same as distance. As such, an empty tile far from a solar system might be light years across, while a planet might have a radius measured in thousands of km and occupy a single tile. Because the a planet would have a greater mass than empty space light years across, its mass effectively makes the volume it occupies to function like a tile as big as the other tile, despite occupying far less vol

The upgrade process don't always happen in one turn. Its can take several turns if the ships are far away from your planets and starbases. Considering that all ships have 1 hp in this process, they are quite fragile. Also the prices for upgrading is determined by rush buy rates, not by by the cost of building them on planets. Overall, you are paying 10x the difference (I think its the difference) when you upgrade. Often, it is cheaper to simply build new ships than build new on
