Quoting StevenAus, reply 23It's really great that all of the vanilla LH hero types are useful in their own way at least to some players or for certain playstyles... that shows that Stardock has got something right, although it is true that some path types could use a little tweaking (and maybe even new paths such as Summoner and/or Ranger and new path choosing mechanism instead of the window - could be implemented).

How does the "pay 1000 gold for a city" ability work? Must I be at war with the faction I "buy" the city from? If not, will this put me at war with them? Do I suffer unrest as if I had conquered the new city? Thanks in advance

I can't find any info on caravans (economic treaties). What exactly does an economic treaty do? What do caravans do? Do you think that economic treaties are worth it? Are they better or worse than trade treaties? Thanks in advance
If there is a tile 3/3/3 (with 3 essense) or 4/3/2 (with 2 essense) I build a city there and don't regret to lose a chance of building another city. If all tiles are with 0 or 1 essense I will try to build 2 cities. 6 grains it's too much. You don't really need so much. You can live normally with 3 or more grains. I just settled a town with 6 grain (3 materials) -first time I've ever seen a 6 grain tile; and it has an grove tile right next to it! It was in the middle of several fertile tiles. By building a city on it, I probably denied myself the chance to build two cities on both sides of the stretch of fertile tiles; instead of building one in the middle of them. but I really wanted to build a city on the 6 grain tile. Would I have been better off building two les

Thanks for your reply. In battles, how do you make use of the "foritfy" ability? Should I move; then foritfy; then wait for the enemy to come to me? Thanks in advance.

I'm having a hard time utilizing The Tarth's ability which grants +3 attack and +3 initiative when in armies of three or less. I'm usually trying to field the largest size armies that I can in order to win fights efficiently, with minimal loss. How do you best make use of this ability? Thanks in advance

I'm playing the Kraxis for the first time (only my second game of FE) and I was wondering about how to best use their abilities. Which of the four victory types are they best suited to pursue? How do make use of their build pikes defense ability in tactical battles? Then there's bribing units for 100 gold and bribing cities for 1000 gold. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance also: their cities have white letters on an orange backround, which can be hard to see clearly. Bl
Every random map is made up of blocks of pre-designed maps called stamps. Think of the stamps as puzzle pieces that the generator puts together to make your random map. The more stamps you have the more variety of random maps you will have.
Thanks. That alone seems like a good enough reason to get the Map dlc.

I just bought the Quest dlc and I'm looking at the map dlc. For someone who always likes to play with all 10 factions included in campaigns, is there any reason to get the map dlc? Thanks in advance
both. because one of the factors of "the speed at which your city grows" is how far you are away from the total capacity. as you near capacity, growth slows down. adding grain increases capacity which can increase growth rate if you're far enough away from that total capacity. make sense?
So which do you prioritise: improvements that give food (grain) or improvements that give growth?
I think they have done a good job in making each faction play differently. Tarth adds some bad habits about wandering close to monsters without worry that the other factions don't have, but you can learn other habits from the other races which could be detrimental when playing other races. Magnar will get you in the habit of building a lot of fodder units, but that doesn't work so well with other races. Altar will get you used to

Is the Tarth a good faction to begin with? or is their "not getting attacked by monsters" ability a bad trait to learn the game with, as it makes playing them too different from playing other factions? Thanks in advance

Hi. I just bought LH and it looks like a fantastic game that I'm going to really enjoy. I have a few start-up questions before I begin my second game (first "real" one). 1) I'd like to play with all 10 factions included (9 AIs). Should I play on a "huge" map? In some games (like Civ 5), I find that the recommended number of civs per map size is often too few. Is playing with all 10 factions on a "large" map (the 2nd largest map) a good option? 2) W

Hi; I'm a new player and I have a few questions (by the way, I'm playing Diplomacy; but with the diplomatic victory condition turned off): - what happens to an AI's planets and fleets once it surrenders? - can you please offer some tips for proposing missions to the AI? - is it generally best to keep all (or most) of your ships in a single fleet? it seems like they're both safer & more effective this way. - what's generally better:
