Thanks for all the input. I just did a huge galaxy with 9 races and didn't put in a spin control center. It was much better. But.... then i find myself create new ways to blast the piss out of everyone, almost seeking newer shortcuts to victory. I did a quickbuild of my home planet and went apeshyt on soldiering and attacked the closest planet I could find, it was kind of funny. I usuall y take a passive play so it was a change for me. I do play a couple other games also. I am

I'm sorry to say, the game is getting a tad boring. Furthermore, after reading all the new patch bugs, I'm glad I didn't load it up. My version plays fine as is. I turned off tech trading and play on the highest level. It's just that i know the "exploits" now and it's hard not to pursue them. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make my game more challenging? After I build a spin control center the game is virtually up for my opponents. I do that and then research up to Dreadnaught s

#5 by Empyrean Wednesday, May 24, 2006 3:37 AM Quick building that many colony ships is a bad move unless you're playing in a tiny galaxy loaded to bursting with AI opponents. I don't know what level you play on, but my last game I had a total of four planets and the Arceans had about 15. You needs planets for population and production. Population = taxes. Your Math isn't working for me. Excalidan, I was being ficitious.<

That's sounds fun and dandy, but I never get a deficit now. First. Set research to 60% I discover one diplomatic, then one life support. (you can scout all you want, if you can't get there, it's worthless.) Second. then I repeat the first step. diplomatic, then life support. Third. If my citizens are unhappy but still reproducing.... I tax their asses until they stop making babies, then I ease up when I population ceases. I finish out my diplomatic tr

Further more, I don't worry about colonization because I get back on the starbase tree and max that out and just influence grab the planets I want. My games used to take 8 hours, now it's down to three on a large galaxy.

The spin control center to me is an exploit. After I set that and keep my home planet making weaponized ships, I proceed as I wish without getting hassled from the AI. I max my taxes out in the beginning to keep in the green and quick research the diplomacy tree and BAM! Spin control center, then I reset to production and fast build a fleet. After that no one screws with me.

I think the universal ramifications of your tax policy are good the way they are. It makes the player more aware of each and every planet's needs. As in real life, your tax policies are not going to cater to everyone.

I had to move the settings from Normal to the next lowest. To be quite honest and show my true n00bness, I didn't know I could quick build things. That had quite a bit to do with it. 1. I had freighters out as soon as possible and maxed out trade right after diplomacy, This helped alot with bc. 2. As far as the taxes. I adjusted my Industry to low to start and focused on Research. In the beginning I kept my approval around 70%. But, my research was going through the roof. It counterac

Well, thanks to the forum folks for giving me some advice I have finally put foot to galactic ass in this game. I took the advice to fast track my diplomacy into building the Spin Control Center and that made all the difference. I just kept that planet building ship after ship making me look mega bad-ass, giving me time to work on my social projects amassing huge amounts of BC. Took me from about 5:00 till 5:30 this morning. I didn't realize what time it was. I played 9 races and after about 6

Thanks for the advice folks. I quick researched diplomacy and super built my starbases. After 1000+ weeks the defense I could muster was some kick ass starbases. I can't seem to balance the defense ships with my maintenance costs. I think next round I will increase my freighter activity and mange it more getting rid of low trade routes. Just like Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri, I'm getting my research down to a routine, I just need a big layout of the research tree to help me. I would li

Well.... it doesn't pay to be technologically advanced. Every time I crush everyone in research and xeno improvements, some bad-ass comes and starts some crap with me and forces me to throw down. By that time I have 100k in the bank and just fast build a mega fleet then he comes back apologizing for his indescretions. However, lately, I have had some Civs come at me early in the process and wipe me out. Perhaphs I am missing a step in there or not donating enough money on first contact. Any sugg

Dyna, I admit I acted inappropriately in this forum and showed little respect for Stardock. My behavior was tasteless due mostly to my own ignorance. I figured since all my other games worked and I had never experienced the problems I had with any other game that it must be Stardock's fault. I have come to find over the past month that it was my own error that caused this problem. Not mine per se but my overworked card. I was enlightened to the fact I punish my video cards badl

As you can see Medcatt from my posts, I hate hassle and I hate when games don't work. The extra money for a system designed purely for gaming seems the logical choice for me. Yarlen, as you can tell from my prior posts, I lack a certain tact when expressing my displeasure. I think the journalism field belongs to the more diplomatic. As my friend stated we put serious amounts of punishment gaming on these cards. He is not done running diag s on my 6600 but I'm thinking just due to the shear magnitude of gaming I do (about 5-6 hours a day) I probably overclocked or burned the card out. I have the perfect job, I work maybe 4 hours a day and get to spend alot of time screwing off playing games. The more I think about it, I'm suprised the card lasted as long as it did. I have a box of vid cards, and I probably run through one a

After having a programmer friend of mine spend a day with me completely wiping my computer clean with a low level format and running various tests we have finally got GalCiv2 to work properly. We have dedicated many, many hours to finding a solution to this problem and it turns out it laid within the GeForce 6600 card. For some reason the game doesn't like the card. It works fine for all my other games but we had to test everything. We finally switched out the 6600 for my old 5700LE and the game

Sorry, meant to say Spellborn, God damn Broderbound keeps spamming my inbox and I can't get them out of my head.

Hollowman take a serious look at The Chronicles of Spellbound. I have a feeling I am going to be dedicating some serious chair time to that game.

Skelton42 I was in San Diego when I was in so I spent my money in Tijuana. I maybe spent a totla of 20.00 a night. (Not including the donkey show. Veblen... Myst just confused the crap out of me. I spent more time reading the walk-thrus then playing the game. little too much problem solving for my taste. I love a good mind bender but Christ, that game made me take notes. As far as s
