there's a mega event like that, that gives a precursor artifact to a civ. makes the civ more powerful over time. I wonder if it can be modded as an increasing difficulty for all
if you start in the centre of a spiral map you are likely to get lots of planets. Why don't you play the tournament or duel maps? They are more balanced if that's what you want.

I suppose Fujiko said "convince me" to start a debate about what would be an alternative better and more fun system. This is the point of this discussion, not necessarily to convince anybody else :)
I also enjoy tech trading. Disable it in your game: and make custom factions with research priorities as high as possible. The build in races have their own personalities so maybe they don't prioritise techs.

I think it is not needed anymore. Our end turn button does most of the job easier! At least for the most of the ones you need to do something.

EDIT: I think your prayers have been answered. My game was just updated and it seems Mercenary cost has now become progressive. No money to begin with, only resources and then things start going up the more you hire. So the more resources you have the more you will be able to hire. Now it pays
The cost is probably high as a balance issue. You also wouldn't want to spam the map with mercenaries, they should be somewhat special.
I wanted to give my thoughts so far in a summarised form in one place, instead of posting them everywhere. Makes things easier :) In general I like the expansion. I was expecting to be a bit beefier: - More particle effects (e.g. more/different missile effects as research progresses. Could also have different effects depending on whether you chose cheaper lasers or longer ranging). I remember reading that this (unless I dreamed it?) would happen but I haven't noticed it at

Quick question: Why does this need a tweak? I thought you could set the power settings like that anyway in Windows . Is it disabled in the SP4?

A side note: I know that this is probably quite low on the priority list (mine as well!), but will there be new achievements for Mercenaries? Like finishing the game with Torians and Arceans, finishing the campaign, hiring first mercenary, using mercenary to colonize etc...
