I'm having the same question...since the email notification says this beta is only available through Impulse, I go ahead and have Impulse installed today, assuming it will automatically transfer my existing SDC info. But then Impulse doesn't recognize my serial for SOASE when I try to update it. Actually, Impulse says "no registration number required", yet it won't allow me to download the update unless I have a valid registration number...what gives?

The problem with phase lanes is that they competely negate range and that entire tactical consideration is reduce to topology instead, this reduces the possibilities for emergeant strategies and reduces variation in the game experience and replayability. Again, my assumption is that it's actually the point of phaselane. By heavily limiting the possibilities, Iron Clad may be able to come up with a decent AI that doesn't dep

Open for me too. If GC2 can be open with so called best AI ever in the universe omg I'm gonna explode. And plenty of other real time games have had openings with some on occasion 'natural' barriers with good AI. It has to be possible here! I think GC2 is amazing too, b

That's not what I meant...I believe phaselane is more like a fundamental layout, the improvement will be most likely be built into the ways it's utilized by the AIs. That's very different from expecting the whole phaselane thingie to be eradicated. Openmap games will always be harder to implement a competent AI than the more limited map. Admittedly, currently the AI in SOASE is simply brain dead. I can't imagine how much worse it could be if they diss the whole phaselane idea

The phaselane is for protecting the AIs. Currently they are unable to take advantage of it, as Ronald pointed out, but I'd bet that will change drastically at a later stage of development. Think about it: if we all can jump freely, do you honestly believe AIs would have any chance to fight off our human brains without cheating in the game? With phaselane limitation, Ironclad is more likely to come up with some AI strategies that will be more effective.

I see people complain that the planets are laid out wrong and that there is no orbiting and then later in their post, site GalCiv2 as a good example of how things were done "right" (right being a relative term). GalCiv2 as an amazing game, I loved it. Yet I would hardly call it realistic. The planets aren't always laid out logically. Solar systems are very close together in some cases only taking a week or two to travel between them. Planets are very close tog

I disagree. There are already people complaining that the game is easy and boring in some stages. The difficulty of getting your ships out of harm's way is good; otherwise it would be too easy. Would you like the AI to be able to 'push a button' and remove the ships from battle that you have almost killed? Personally i think the problem plagues most games too - maintaining busy mou

There shouldn't be any "choke points" in space. I disagree. I personally would prefer to stay with a system with limited travel, and the potential for strategic points. Certainly there could be a high-end tech that may allow the opening of additional lanes, or circumventing such choke points by some means, but IMO that should be the exception, not the rule. Without the lanes, there is ver

The folder is under your current Windows account's "\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Games\". Make a shortcut to that folder. You'll need to access that often in the future, for easier file management(deleting, renaming, etc.).

The concept of morphing is cool, but judging by the beta, the actually gameplay is really boring. The ships just sit still and shoot each other until one side falls. No other action going on like fighters engaging tactical combat or something.

Just a suggestion... Adding a special mark, or some kind of emphasis on the political, economical, and financial planets. Make these planets stand out on the map easily. I think it's more of a cosmetic implementation, but will result in a different feel for gamers, and the info can stimulate a sense of strategical planning. It can be even pushed a step further by marking out the most essential trading planets of the enemies, or the ones that have access to the most resourcefu

This is what i first thought, but then i realised i wouldn't necissarily know if it was crashing on the autosave. Just as easy to asume it might be if the game ever crashes after hitting end turn. Because you know, who ever keeps track of when an auto save is due? i know i don't! Oh thank you thank you! you are absolutely right. Disabling aut

As far as the article, I thought that, while fair, he is also a weird gamer. Some of his strengths of SEV, for example, are weaknesses in my view. And some of his weaknesses in GalCiv2 are definitely strengths as far as I'm concerned. SOTS is just awful, period. Anyway, interesting comparison. With DA, GalCiv2 will be nigh unstoppable as the "new MOO." Plus, while I'm sure

1. No need to rush-colonize any more. 2. Mega events can actually turn the tides. 3. The AI (I think some mega events are designed for this purpose too) will work together to prevent the late-game-easy-win from us. 4. The improved graphic of the default ships are really pleasing to the eyes. These make DA much more enjoyable than the original, IMHO. Definitely worths getting. If you like GC2, you can't miss DA.

I came across this and got really impressed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhZQEvg1V0Y The guy did an amazing job and it's totally BSG-like, I'd say. Perhaps Stardock would also consider getting the distribution rights as Nexsus seems to be pretty much dead now.

The AI never built a factory on any of its research worlds, the fact that it had worlds dedicated to research was really nice but a factory or two is really necessary since they built up far to slowly with the lack of any infrastructure on there research worlds. Especially with the new increased build costs to some of the research buildings. ...p

UI Issues 1. When naming a ship, naming should start from the end of the name. IE. Colony 1, typing should beging after the 1 number , not from the beginning before C character. This is the No.1 annoyance in my book too. The same principle should be applied to game saving part as well. Also, the use of "enter" key should be added too so we do
