Lead designer Paul Boyer and associate producer Raymond Bartos answered many of the questions you folks sent in last week . Tactical battles, minor races, and moddability were among the many hot topics, and our guys dropped some

Hey all -- Just an FYI, I'm now harvesting the thread for questions (great questions, btw!). Further questions deposited here will likely be ignored. Thanks!
We are still hoping to do an AMA at some point, but in the meantime I'm putting together a community Q&A that I would love for you to participate in.
Hey everyone! Looking for a chance to pick mormegil's (lead designer Paul Boyer) brain about what we're doing with GC3, curious about the art direction, or wondering what the design philosophies behind some of the changes on tap for the third game? You have come to the right thread. I'm putting together what I hope will be the first of many community Q&A sessions with the Galactic Civilizations III team. Ask your questions in this thread, and I'll collect w
(click the pic for a full-res, downloadable version) Humanity’s allies are bloodied but unbroken in the Galactic Civilizations III timeframe. The former leader of the Republic, Eleys Mue, died at the hands of the Drengin paving the way

Thanks for catching those discrepancies upthread, guys. Timeline has been changed and vetted, everything should be accurate now.
We've put together an interactive timeline of the Galactic Civilizations III universe. Follow along from our dimension's creation billions of years ago through the rise of humanity and hyperdrive, the Dread Lord wars, and the wrathful return of the Terran First Fleet that kicks off the story of Galactic Civilizations III. Check out the Galactic Civilizations III interactive timeline here.
Stardock Entertainment VP Derek Paxton (Kael) has a lot to say about the business side of how games are made. Check out his latest interview if you're curious about the differences in the way Stardock works versus many other game studios.
They have gained control most of the known galaxy You're missing an "of" between "control" and "most", if I'm not mistaken.
I have no idea of what you speak, good sir ;)
The evil Drengin empire is in control of the known galaxy. Lacking nigh-invincible warrior-priests to do enforce its grim decrees, the Drengin use these powerful starships to maintain their hegemony. As the story of Galactic Civilizations III begins, the Drengin have seized control of the galaxy alongside their Yor allies . Treacherously holding their fleets back during the Drea
Derrrrrrrrrrrrrp, fixed. Thanks ;)
Stardock Entertainment VP and Legendary Heroes designer Derek Paxton spoke to Rob Zacny at PCGamesN at length about how 64-bit strategy gaming takes the shackles off of modders and designers, among other things. “If I know that my game is going to support 32-bit, some people are going to play my game in 32-bit mode. I know that I can’t design more stuff in my world, no more can be accessed at once than what fits on a 32-bit amount of memory, which is abou
We’ve opened up the doors to another section of the Galactic Civilizations III website: the Civilizations page in the Databanks. Curious where the Torians are at? Want to spot-check your knowledge of the wars that shaped the Drengin? Read up on them and the rest of the major players
Quoting Wintersong, reply 23 Nice, we will be able to use different colors for hulls and windows in the ship editor. What is a texure though? Think materials. In GalCiv II, you could change color but you couldn't change material (graphics technology wasn't there yet). Different substances interact with light in different ways. Heh, of course, in GalCiv II, we didn't even have self-sha
Well the good news is that you don't need a Reddit account to read AMAs, and the format makes it really easy to pick out the responses from the questions/discussion being submitted.
This stuff will all be archived there if we become founders at a later date, right? In other words, a day one Galciv 3 founder and the final day available Galciv 3 founder will get the same content. I'm only asking because some other founder's programs had staggered rewards depending on when a user became a founder.
We don't have any plans currently to remove content from the Repository.</
We've added a cool new feature to our Founder's program : a behind-the-scenes look at some of the pieces of Galactic Civilizations III as they're being built. We're planning on adding new content to the Repository on a regular basis, b
Not to pull back the curtain too far or anything, but yeah -- we were always planning on a Reddit AMA. It'll just be a little while yet so we can make sure we're able to talk about more stuff.
Quoting abiessener, reply 16Good eye. Fixed. Could you fix this too, please? "Because the Yor are in a constantly upgrading themselves, we wanted to show some of their tech in between the large triangular shapes."
Man we should hire someone with some experience as an editor or something around here. (Thanks, fixed.)
Also "The Yor are a racer of aggressive sociopathic machines." I assume that is a mistake and there is not going to be a future F1 minigame?
Good eye. Fixed.
Meet the Yor, though the sociopathic murderbots don’t much care to meet with meat. Our sentient race of homicidal machines are sitting pretty in the Galactic Civilizations III timeframe. The clever Drengin plot to hold back during the Dread Lord war and crush their enemies’ exhausted militaries afterward appealed to the Yor’s calculated self-interest. The robotic Yor fleets joined the Drengin in smashing the Terran and Arcean empires and their allies, and now hold jo
Oh I'm not mad -- I appreciate your help. They should all be fixed now. Please do point out any other errors you see. :)
I'm the mean guy who won't let mormegil tell you everything, it's totally my fault :( Putting together a journal post that I hope you guys will like though, so that's something! Hopefully that should go up tomorrow.
Thanks chuck1es, I'll get these taken care of.
