I found it a bit annoying that the list of ship improvements is listed alphabetically instead of by quality. Put the high quality stuff at the top, sorting alpha only if two things are identical in quality, for example Laser 2 and miniballs 2 are roughly equal in quality but laser 1 and miniballs 2 are not. The point this is most obviously flawed is in engines, where there's really only one path.

Yes, colors indicating increasing or decreasing treasury would be great. Not sure if they are in though, since I haven't had a decreasing treasury much yet. I would also like to see a meter that displays approval rating, but that could just be because of the bug where the individual planet morale display doesn't update unless you click on it again (and again...and again).

I find the new ship built icon to be inconvenient, in that when you click on it, it brings up the shipyard's production. This is not what I expect. Since we have to launch ships from the planet before we can do anything with them, I would much prefer the new ship icon to cause the screen to center on the planet that built the ship. Often, I am building the same ship over and over again, so I don't really need the shipyard interface. However, I do need to be able to find the planet that built it

I think Lucky Jack has a good point. When the update comes out, just patch. Try it out and send in bug reports on your success or failure. If you fail to be able to play, uninstall and start from scratch. That way SD knows their patch system isn't quite working right... and you still get to test the beta...

Seems like I'm stuck out in the cold in this run. CTD as soon as I start to generate the galaxy. I have already sent in the smartexception file as was suggested by smartexception. I'll have to try different things to see if I can get around it, but so far no luck yet. Beta 3 did work fine... Just not 3A WinXP SP2 Athlon64 3400+ GF FX 5950 SB Live 5.1

Realized I should elaborate on my system specs: Athlon64 3400+ GF FX 5950 1GB RAM SB Live 5.1 Pleanty of HD space Running Win XP Pro SP 2 All drivers up to date as of may '05 Oh, and the alt-tab issue was not specifically alt-tab. I hit the windows key to get to the desktop. It didn't crash till re-entry into the game.

Seems to be stable for the most part. However, it does crash if you alt-tab at any time. Love the new tech screen, can't wait to see all the techs come into play. Hoping there are more techs we haven't seen however as some branches seem incomplete. Many races still think I'm human, even though I'm not. Battle graphics are well done, but cause system slow down. (Athlon64 3400+ w/ GF FX 5950 and 1GB of RAM) Needs some optimization work.

Yeah, definitely Milky Way galaxy. Seeing as travel times in GC1 are in months, and will be in weeks for GC2. I am assuming that all worlds involved are from the MW... Sectors appear to be suggesting reasonable distances at low warp speeds. There also isn't a giant void of nothingness suggesting an intergalactic environment.

Come to think of it, us pesky humans should be able to see which stars are yellow without such technology. After all, we already can... at least to the extent that we know what they were a few hundred years ago, depending on the star. If you check in astronomy books, you'll find that each star is already labelled as to which variety it is. That data is only inaccurate by the number of years it takes for light to travel to us. The galaxy is only 100,000 light years across, so the furthes

Excellent point Kevin! Heck, some races might not even -have- genders. They could all reproduce asexually or some such. I suppose though, that this is slightly off topic from the original intent of this thread. Which was to comment that GC1 lacked females as potential leaders, even among the humans.

I think it randomly attached that description to any of the minor races. I've seen different descriptions for the same named species... I also noticed that there was a female dominated "modern" minor race.

I think Tim has the best idea. Non-offensive ships shouldn't be able to destroy their attackers. However, they should also be able to get away if they are sufficiently defensive and fast. Neither ship will be destroyed at the end of the fight. I also think his calculation of 10 rounds is about right, except I think he meant 10 - (difference in speed)... otherwise we'd have division by 0... If the battle has gone on for 10 - (difference in speed) rounds with no clear

Not counting human, I recognize 3 of those being from other sources. Calamari - Star Wars (Mon Calamari cruiser, etc), Kodan - Last Starfighter (Zur and the Kodan armada), Vogon - Hitchhiker's Guide (Vogon constructor ships)... Draconian could be from a number of places I suppose, but I don't specifically recognize it. Is it from somewhere I might have heard of?

I was thinking about previous beta tests the other day. One of the most successful beta tests I participated in was for Europa Universalis. Part of this success was due to one of the beta testers coming up with an excellent way to assess the AI's ability. Fortunately for EU, this ability was already written into the code. Simply put, EU provided a way to disable fog of war, explore everything and watch ALL world events as they happened via a message system.

Personally, I would be quite disturbed if they decided to include women as leaders or in any other role, only to have them exposing a lot of cleavage. Let's keep the drool off the keyboard please and include women but have them just as modestly dressed as the men. I know that I personally do not play games to drool over the characters on the screen.... do you? I find the fact that women seem to only be included if they are half naked rather repulsive. As far as a leader image, I would l
