The civ maker will use both if I remember the video right. Anyway you could buy the program and get the ability to make bink 2 files.
No it won't, I asked a member of the dev team in a post. To support original bik files would take extra lines of code. I was hopeful when I saw original bik files in the game files also, they are in the files but unused. So far i've emailed the BK2 guys twice,

I really enjoy the idea of having a race that steals techs, not sure who it should be or if it should wait for a DLC, but any race that plays very differently to others is always welcome for me, as it gives me a completely different game experience and a completely different kind of opponent. Ideas: 1) Tech spread * Techs become easier to steal the more races that have them, requiring 2 races minimum to have researched it, o

A lot about space battles will never be realistic by today's standards. It's about gameplay over realism. They look good, so let's keep them. If we really want to get into arguments about realism, a lot of what's going in the viewer will need to go, including much of the tech tree. For example, fire doesn't burn in space in the same way, or 'explode' outward. Without those explosions though, things wouldn't look half as cool. <p

Yes very much for other genres, but it'd make animating heads for leaders really easy. Pick a background, pick a model and then sit in front of your own screen.

Is there any chance of future iterations of galciv or expansions supporting facerig for custom civilisations? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXylVvwvY94&t=24 It seems the next generation way of creating characters. Thought i'd bring it up if nobody in the forum or studio has come across it before. It's beginning to allow people to take a model and animate it in facerig as well.

What's the first race you are all going to make? I may call mine Beta 5 as a tribute :) I also cannot wait. I have held off playing another game till the map size improved, and with the hopeful improvements in AI it should make for an all around better experience, not to mention I can get working on custom races :D, like Beta 5. However, always better it gets more testing than not.

I posted this on the last thread, here it is if you get around to it. Question: How do you plan to model pirates, if you do at all? Will they be a minor faction? Will they be a rogue group someone can sponsor against their enemies? Will they appear through events? Will they have a chance of appearing on an uncolonized world, or via event, or via an unhappy world? Will they have an outpost on the main map, that can appear dur

I also wanted to add I am really, really happy you've put in personalities for the custom races, for the regular races to distinguish them from each other and to allow for many combinations for players to mod in their own. Thank you for that. I hope with expansions you might even release more if you create new races :), but that's only asking for icing on the cake. To get these personalities means a lot for modders and helping the variety of our opponents.

Yes, the AI tends to treat all players the same, including using the same dialogue in a lot of cases. Hopefully as the AI get's worked on things like this will be tweaked.

For me these kinds of crashes you are reporting are often heat related. So if it comes up again, be sure to check the temperature of the computer, several programs can do this if you google, that can be fixed as easy as cleaning out the dust from the blocked fans and motherboard. In fact i'd look at the back of your computer regardless, and see if it's clogged up with dust, looking inside wouldn't hurt anyway to check the video card fan isn't blocked either.

Sad, some of the best games I ever played, and the studio is closing. I thought the sims was made by the same people though? Not that i follow these things but. They really lost the plot with this latest incarnation of sim city though, but I guess they were taking a risk, and risks sometimes fail. I can't fault them for trying, but I can fault them for taking out so much of the game that it became unrecognizable as sim city, and also for that absolutely beyond terrible la

Problems: 1) No human on earth could have an alien thought, the concept is impossible. So everything has to be drawn from some source, even if that source is the imagination, which takes it's own cues from past material, or other stimuli. So all we have are picking things that have not been done much before. 2) Things that have not been done much before are harder to relate to, and some kind of relation to the race helps, at the very least bein

I have no problem at all with a couple of optional colony techs that you can tweak on a colony ship as modules. Maybe one gives you bonus population growth, maybe one gives you some initial industrial output, maybe one gives you a factory from the get go for example. So you get the choice of building lots of ships or slightly slower but more powerful ones.

It is a lesson to watch a few let's plays or read a few reviews before buying any game. This is not meant to be a criticism, just something I hope that avoids you some aggravation in the future. Also to have a good read of the comments and page itself, before you buy anything. I will say that I personally took issue with the term beta instead of alpha, and I don't think that helped early perception of galciv 3. I realise we can argue terminology, but modern

The experienced human player gets bonuses too in how it fits ships. The experienced human player gets bonuses in how it tweaks planets. Why shouldn't the AI? Why shouldn't it be abstracted as such? Just so someone can say, that AI is doing something the 'real' way, whatever that means in a computer game. As long as it's still competitive and challenging who cares. It's when it no longer becomes competitive and predictable there is a

I still hold out hope for a pirate race, or minor faction of pirates :). This idea is quite clever though, in essence you are sponsoring a group to harass your enemies, and then denying you did it. So any race could be responsible for the construction of pirates, quite clever. of course it could come back to bite you if you are not careful too. Perhaps there would be a rare event (or investigation) where a race can discover who funded the base, and you take a hit with relations.

Anti fighter tech. Module reduces overall damage against larger targets, but increases damage vs smaller targets. (or just has a high or low base damage, that is gradually decreased or increased based on ship size). Flak would be even cooler of course. The start of real fleet combat and strategies :)

While balance will be dealt with as we go. I do hope smaller ships have a use in the game too as you do, especially in combat :), so it's not just a matter of producing the biggest possible ship each game.
