snowcap2801, Have you tried clearing the cache files? XP = '\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock' folder. Note - Local Settings is a hidden folder. I do not know if this will help since Fuzzy has the same or similar board, but just in case: You need to have the two 1 GB sticks in the blue slots (or slots labeled A1 & B1) and then the two 512 MB sticks in the black slots (or slots labeled A2 & B2). This will enable dual-channel if the BIOS does not disagree with the normal set-up. Anyway, just a thought in case you do not already have it configured this way. Good luck. :)

JavaFiend, That 'DriveIcons' key is the problem. Just delete that 'DriveIcons' key (folder) in the registry and reboot. That should do it. :) Note - FYI that key was created by IconPackager which is no longer installed and is not needed.

JavaFiend, Your 'icofile' registry key is correct, so the problem is not there. Assuming you have tried using the display properties > themes dialog to reapply the default windows theme when attempting to fix the issue, I would attempt the following: - Reinstall IconPackager to see if that restores the correct icons. If so, then I would suggest applying one of the icon packages that are included with the program > reboot > restore all icons using IconPackager (there is also the 'Repair Icons' option you can apply after that) > reboot.

Unless MS releases a SP4 for XP, support for XP will be gone in 5 - 7 years (or thereabouts) after the release of SP3. That being said, I am thinking that Vista will then be a relatively mature OS offered by MS (and will likely be at SP2 or better, if history does repeat itself here) and should be a reasonably solid and well supported platform. Most IT personnel I know will wait until Vista SP1 is released before testing because they have the history of Windows '98,

Dan, You can always delete the Vista partition using the Vista DVD (use 'Drive Options' link under the list of recognized partitions). Simply delete the partition and then exit set-up. I do not know if it will leave a partition that the XP set-up will see to install on or require the creation of a partition using either 'Diskpart' via the recovery console command line or a disk utility - but it will certainly remove the Vista installation. <IMG src="smiles/Wink.gif" align=absM

Kona, If you have Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty fawn) live CD, you should be able to load the live CD into memory and then access your files (Places > Computer > Drive > Documents and Settings). I don't know about earlier versions of Ubuntu as to whether they can read the 'NTFS' format. If you can and have either a second optical drive (burner) or a second internal or external drive, you can copy your files for backup.

Kona, It is probably less of a disaster than you think. While waiting for 'yraq' (which I would also recommend) you could use Ubuntu to copy your data to a removable storage source if you can see it from within Ubuntu. It sounds to me like you may have more than one partition marked as active (or one without the system files for XP). If you have an installation disc for XP, you could use the recovery console.
