ok it was the F1 key instead of del and i haven't changed anything here is what i saw,,, main menue / date/time/language/floppy/primary master/primary slave-none/ secondary master/ slave- none
advanced/ plug and play/ reset config-no/ on board video menu- auto/ primary video/ mouse - auto/ usb/ onboard lan- enabled/ intergrated peripheralls/ on board audio options/ hardware monitor/
boot menu/ boot time diagnostic screen-disabled/ quick boot mode- enabled/boot devise priority

I strongly recommend you have someone more knowledgeable to look into your bios for that setting. Simply do not use the BootSkin until you get someone to change the setting for you. All this is not worth the 5 seconds you see it and the possible damage you could do to your system.

wow, all this over bootskins... i know that its worth it. go to change your bios settings, and in there, there should be Virus Detection, disable it and it should work. i think.

i looked in the set up menu during the boot up process and didn't see any virus detection settings

Navigate through the menu using the arrow keys until hardware monitor is highlighted then press "Enter" ket on keyboard, the anti-virus section should be under that.

If so navigate again until it is highlighted and use PageUp/PageDown to change it from On to Off, press "Escape" button on keyboard until you reach the main menu and (hopfully) there is a "Save And Quit" option, navigate to this option and press the "Enter" key on keyboard, the computer will reboot again and should run normally.

If you are unsure then do as Yrag suggests and get someone with knowledge of Bios to do it for you (Best Option)

ok no i am ok with it besides i have a thing called system restore i can fall back on, i will try it brb

under the hardware monitor the only thing there was cpu temp and fan speed

angela316...assuming it is the BIOS virus check I strongly recommend you do not attempt something from which you may inadvertently prevent your system from booting correctly, and rely on an 'expert' to adjust the BIOS configuration.

It is important when seeking/obtaining help and information that it is not beyond your understanding to extract yourself from potential 'drama'.

Not all 'advice' you may receive on the net is equal, or politic to follow...

I agree with Jafo. If your computer works don't mess around with the bios settings unless you really know what you're doing. And I am not sure that System Restore covers changes to your bios. I would just live with out the bootscreen and get a nice logon screen. Just don't turn on your monitor until you are sure your computer has loaded to the logon screen and you will never have to see the "not so ugly" windows xp default boot screen. I doubt its the bios virus check and If it is I would still leave it running.

yeah i have pretty much given up, which isn't like me as you can tell i am stubborn...lol but thank you for trying and being patient and thorough with me
