Nearly that many hours sank into this game now and I'm ready for another break but I thought I would bring up some points that have been bugging me.
- The ai doesn't seem to want to win. Playing a game where the snat revenge had a butt load of easier enemies around they could expand into and instead chose me. I kicked their arise, took a load of planets but couldn't be bothered with the rest so the irdium were at war with them and I paid the altarians to have a go as well hoping they would gobble up the undefended planets. What actually happened was for 50 turns they sent fleets to fly around with no invasion ships and then made peace. I've had a few things like this where the difficulty setting seems to be more about the player than the attitude of the ai. If you went back to play gal civs 2 loads would happen with border changes, this game the ai seems to happy to sit back and be mediocre.
- The tech tree, what the heck is going on? I've set research rate to very slow and past the first thirty turns, I go through research as if it is set to normal. Additionally, weapon tech seems to be mad and it happens every game I play. You have weapon tech 2 is particle beam and your next three are disruptors, plasma and phaser pod. I have 5 turns for disruptors, 7 for plasma and 6 for phasers so I can go from tech 2 to tech 5 when 4 costs more than 5. In the old game there was progression and all of a sudden my ships are way out of everyone else's league.
- I have mega events which seem to come up when I don't want them and on a stagnant game I could do with dreadlords to liven things up a bit, nothing! And while I'm on events the ones that undo your preferences are annoying. I turned off anomalies because the precursor ones were just silly and then I have events that turn on abundant anomolies?
Overall the game is great but it's just so boring once you get the advantage and even taking a little guy your ally and giving him a bunch of mental powered ships is boring because he won't bloody invade and take any planets unless you take them and trade them off which is just getting ridiculous. Like I say, some races are just content to wait to die.
