Getting the game for free?

So Ive been away sick for a long time. Finally back on my feet afer 2 years being sick.

 

I see that the game is now out. I initially downloaded it on steam when they started making the game. I saw it being built and got the chance to try it in it's early form Now It's out and when I went on steam to buy it it says its in my library.

 I can play it and all. It's really nice.

 

Is that a mistake or did I win something?

Well according to your profile you are a founder since you said you were playing in the early form ( alpha/beta) you most likely bought it then 

 

on a side note has it really been that long

There were also some giveaways from 3rd parties where someone could win what was claimed to be Elite Founder licenses.  I entered one of those even after I bought mine.  I figured I could gift it if I won.
