"only cause I love ya. glad to see you sense of humor is still intact." I'm doing all right. I may just be in shock, but right now, I'm doing okay. No regrets, you know? "Maybe this is yours." The way I figure it, she's already been my answer to prayer hundreds of times. I don't feel betrayed by getting a "no" after so many "yes"'s. Dan

For the record, even knowing the result, I still would have done it. Relationships have to move forward; you can't keep them stagnant for fear of the future. I'm allowed to say irritating things like that during my 24-hour grieving period. Dan

And "what makes a Christian's belief different than the demons?" There are a couple problems here. The first is that you seem to be making the word "faith" equivalent with "belief." I believe I'm sitting on a couch. I can see it. I can touch it. i can feel it. But if I have faith that I'm sitting on the couch, I've implied that there is some doubt in the matter. Demons have (theoretically) seen God first-hand. Faint isn't necessary or

"My understanding is that many believe there is "a God." Belief requires no particular commitment or response. The Bible tells us "even the demons believe". What makes Christians different from the demons?" This is a borrowed argument, a cliche in most Christian circles. I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't really apply. It's like hearing an employer is a stickler for punctuality and being sure to show up on time, but not actually

Sounds like a bad situation. As a guy, my advice would be to wait however long it takes for him to initiate contact, whether it be days or weeks or months. When he does that, ask him what the hell happened. No guy is worth debasing yourself. Remember, letting anybody treat you as if you're worth less than you are will eventually begin to effect your view of yourself. So. wait him out. Let him know that this one was his fault. And maybe

"I would think twice before discounting other people's beliefs and practices. Perhaps that is not what you meant to do in this article, but that's kind of how it came off. " I was irritated because you were discounting my beliefs by trying to make points without the courtesy of making arguments. I would have been irritated if you had done the same on any topic, not just religion. "I can explain God with the fundamentals of chemistry,

"Best friends are for life, the friendship should be treasured and looked after. Risking the friendship with this desire for "more" is foolhardy. Should she decide against your suggestion, the friendship will never be the same and will probably become strained and uncomfortable and with time the friendship will gradually dissolve. Some might argue, good friendships will stand the test of time, that is debatable. I do surely hope for your sake that if h

It's about time. She's been my best friend for years; I trust her absolutely, and I weight her opinions more heavily than my own. A week ago tonight, I told her that I wanted more than friendship. I told her to think and pray about it for as long as she needed, and to call me when she had an answer. I guessed it would take six days. I was off by two days.

"Technically, there is supposed to be a logical way to explain God, well at least from a philosophical view. If one thinks of God as being the most omnipotent, (yet abstract?) thing that one can imagine, then the simple fact that you can imagine such a thing exists, explains its existence. Kind of like a "I think, therefore I am" kind of thing. There are many more, I'm sure, but that is one logical understanding I remember understanding." Tech

"Who are we to think we have complete control of our lives?" We don't. But we do have control over how we respond to events. That's why futures and pasts don't matter; it's what we do in response to life--our actions and reactions, mindful of motive but regardless of result--that defines who we are. "every day there are less and less opportunities in El Paso Texas." Don't be discouraged. The best opportunities are always t

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.." "By faith we are saved." I guess it's common knowledge that faith is a big deal among Christians. But I have dear friends who are atheists and agnostics, and I truly believe that unless they are on the path to Hell. When they ask me, "how can you know that there is a God?," how

Some things just stick with me. Words and phrases strike with such force that they compress the stuff of my mind around them. Others are simply received, as if I was born with a crater just the size and shape of that idea. Usually it is serious. I remember being very young and very furious with my mother. She had done something to offend me, and she was apologizin

Like any young philosophy buff, I've been confecting definitions of "love" since I was twelve. I've run the gamut of cliché pedantry and have even landed myself in the unenviable position of feeling enlightened by those arrogant tidbits of sophistry that masquerade oversimplification as epiphany. “Love is a verb,” I read; “Love is an action.” A couple years

I flatly disagree with much of this article. A lot of women do complain about pain incessantly. Men often complain about lesser pain but will tolerate greater pains rather that get them treated. Regardless, there is no "weaker" sex. There are just two different sexes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. I write this bluntly because I suspect you of appealing to a societal convention that gives women more credit than they deserve, w

"Wait until they re-release the Athlon 64-based chips with new Microarchitectures. Let the owning resume. Though I'd be getting a Core 2.5 Duo just for SSE4 (My Athlon XP's inability to run OSX is making me green all over.)" Ahem, that was me. I agree that when AMD releases its single-chip quad-core processor, it will take the performance lead. But... it's not like In

Gideon, AMD? Maybe, maybe not. But either way I don't think it alters the spirit of what I said. It's not unreasonable to suppose that the pressure that forced Intel to make a stellar processor like the C2D (I really do love them) is because AMD, a smaller company, was completely owning them on a regular basis. Big companies like Intel have big egos. I don't really believe in brand loyalty when it comes to computer equipment. Sure, I trust some mfgs, but if they start maki

Now I do have to take sides on this one. I'm a sucker for the underdog, but I think AMD is screwed this time. Just finally moving into 65nm, the stupid 939vsAM2 thing (what were they thinking?) and high-end processors that are getting creamed by less expensive C2D's. I'm not saying it's their "fault," per se, I just don't think they have the resources to recover. Thank God Intel ditched P4's. Dan

I've taken both sides of this debate in the past. In MS's defense, I think they had a colossal task before them in the form of Vista. Imagine creating an operating system with decent backward-computability, support for a few million devices out of the box (no flaming please; yes, it's an exaggeration), and multiple ways to render the interface. I tired the beta and used it. I didn't like it. But now I've used release, and hey, it's growing on me.
